Default Sierra 1.8 CVH help....... lol Dojj??!

running a saff 1.8 cvh as a very very rarely used car at the minute (once in 3 months to be precise!)

Can i convert it to coilpack to get rid of the broken rotor arm retainer that cannot be replaced?

if so, how?

simply use Escort/Fiesta early ESC modules? (circa 1990)

Next Question,
are the starter motor bolt pattern the same as 2wd Cossies?

been a while since i touched one, only thing ive done to this is started it

Cheers

What year is the car?

The later cars came with coils but you've got to change the entire loom

As for the starter, for used so many different starters its impossible to say for sure when even the same engine/gearbox combinations could vary. There were 4 different versions for the mt75 equipped cars for example if they had a v6 bolted to the front

Cheers lads,

Dojj, i wanted to know if the coilpack cars ran a full ECU/loom or if i could rob the EDIS and sensors since it runs a trigger wheel already??

Might try the HSC EDIS as its easy to make one work, did loads of zetecs like that.

Ginger,
im putting a YB in this next year but just need it to drive to newastle at christmas and not break down

not sure how you would get the coil pack to work without the rest of the loom

let me ask someone who has actually done the conversion and get back to you

It has ESC Hybrid as standard, but shouldn't think that can be modded for the coil pack?

At a total guess I would say the pattern is different, being the motors are different to a Pintos even!

The later cars had what he's looking for fitted to a cvh but I'm not sure if they also had the lambda stuff all wired into the same ecu

They did.

From late 1991 (when they all got the "hooded" dash and the body-coloured bumpers) 1.8 CVHs were revised and fitted with a EEC-IV CFi system - so central-point fuel injection, EDIS driving a coilpack, and a catalyst / lambda for emissions.

Retrofitting a CFi setup onto a CVH Sierra is reasonably straightforward *if* you've got all the bits but that's going to be the problem nowadays. The days when you stood a good chance of finding a Sierra in a scrappy with it all on are probably long gone.

If you want to do away with the distributor and want to run an EDIS / Coilpack setup, I would suggest something like a MegaSpark ECU to just control the timing for you. I know of someone who built one up for his Pinto, and it worked pretty well for just daily smoking around in.

Was quite cheap to do IIRC and when he broke the car, he made his money back on selling the MegaSpark ECU and loom to someone else looking to do a bike carb conversion.

Marty, i know the bits arent interchangable, i was going to use the CVH crank sensor/pulley and a HCS/CVH ignition setup, ive done it many times with zetecs.

Glenn, yes mate im coming up boxing day
We gonna get your paperweight back off that mug i the paintshop?

Gup, see below.... Cheers anyway matey

Sadly.....

think the headgaskets gone, not fucking about with the CVH anymore,

needs a starter, headgasket, waterpump, radiator so just gonna drive untill it drives no more then put my YB in it.

Passed its MOT today though, only a tyre as advisory

Cheers, Sean.
