picked up a cheap xsara picasso hdi 2.0, as the guy has been told the clutch has gone
Although there is a pedal it wont allow gears to be selected when clutch fully depressed, my intial thought was the slave (external) or master cylinder has gone
Any common problems to look for? I can feel vibration through pedal, so i'm hoping these arent DMF? anyone know?
if its worst case and it is a gearbox out/ new clutch, what are they like to do, it looked a bit tight when i was look at the room you've got

slave is external, worth trying 1st i suppose
they're bad for the thrust bearing eating into the pressure plate causing clearance probs(sometimes high pitched squeal as well)
if you do take the box out to do the clutch, theres a sleeve on the box around the spigot shaft that wears badly, couple bolts hold it in and cost less than £10
box aint bad to come out, but the diff is quite tight to the rear of the subframe but it does go

thanks
the slave is external, ive had a quick look and cant see any fluid loss either at slave or master - i tried wedging the clutch pedal down overnight incase it was drawing in air, but its the same today.
interesting about the thrust eating into the pressure plate, as it feels exactly as if the its not clearing enough.
gearbox out i think! booooo

not sure about the picasso, but on the 406 hdi's, the easy way to tell is the 110 has an intercooler and the 90 doesnt
dont know if the picasso is the same but its the same engine so possibly?

My 406 used to squeek as such when you turned it off. Well thats the best way to describe it that I can think of right now. If you are changing the clutch and it has a dmf then do change both as you know full well if you dont it'll go anyway.
