Hello all! I am currently working on a documentary on classic cars for Channel 4 and was wondering if there were any boy racers or people really into modifying their Fords who might be interested in chatting to me about it?
One of the episodes is looking at a Ford Escort Mexico and we would love to find a current young Ford owner who is into racing and modifying their own car.
Please reply to this thread or PM me and I will give you an email address to contact.
Thanks a lot!
Louise

Might be worth trying Turbosport as you might find more Mexico's on their site (but the age range of the owners will be older) but do not think they will take kindly t being called boy racers though

This is absolutely not derogatory at all! Our show is a celebration of cars and how they defined our social and motoring history. 'Boy racers' or modification enthusiasts or whatever euphemistic term you prefer absolutely define our social history, its inception commonly attributed to the Escort Mexico's introduction on to the market and its ease of modification. I am looking for the modern equivalent and thought that a forum where Ford enthusiasts congregate would be a good starting point. If anybody is interested then please send me a message.

Haha you do not need to be a chav! Clearly I hit a sore spot using the terminology I have done but a modern car is fine, as long as you have modified it to improve it either aesthetically or internally, ideally both.

jeez, didn't realise us lot (who are in the eyes of most, termed perfectly innocently as boy racers) were such a sensitive bunch!
I take no offence to being called a boy racer, and realise that in the eyes of most, with my big outwardly rolled tailpipe and whooshing turbo I am in fact (as are you) someone who fits that used-by-the-masses term (even my Auntie calls me it... the CUNT!) ; )
Wouldn't it have ben better to respond to this lady with a bit of a cuddle rather than a big frosty "fuck yoself"?! Get over it, we drive silly whaletailed cars with silly wheels and silly exhausts and turbos!
I bet she's calling us something else other than boy racers now!
Ben

I can confirm this is a genuine thread and the OP has been verified by me, the aim is to find either
Older owners who modified these in the 70s.
OR
young owners of Fords who have a passion for modification and restoration
do not spam the thread up with crap or it will be deleted

if it's rsturbo's she's after and young lads, christian (of christian and becky fame) had a fast one AND he never looked like he was older than about 14 ![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
and the only person who fits the age bracket and has a modified car from what i can tell is jimbo, cost being the one thing that you need either deep pockets to do or lots of free time and ability and knowledge and tools and everything else you need to fix up a car
if you are genuinly looking for ford only stuff then perhaps a look at how cars and youngsters modifying them over the past 50 years or so would be the way to go, you could then include the old school lot in with the younger generation and see how things have changed over time with the advancement in tuning and the intervention of turbos and technology impacting more and more onto what is achievable
there is a sporty ford of all models out there so you could cast your net much further rather than being shackled to just 2 models and an age group
just a thought, not that i know anything about telly or how to make programs or the like

might be worth looking into the right history of the mexico and further feature cars first. it wasnt made to be modified it was made to celebrate the win of the london to mexico rally that ford won. but i have a modified last generation escort if that any good

Sill think your best bet would Turbosport and are you after, a MK1 or MK2 two Escort Mexico.
Or maybe look in the old school section on here (there my not me many mexicos's but there a couple of nice RS2000's in there)
Thing is the owners on here are older than 18-25 (but the majority are not old enough to have owned a Mexico in the 70s)

I think you should have a word with luca as his fiesta turbo is a little bit more than modded and would be worthy of having it on any tv screen

Steve it will be nigh on impossible to find the full package that they are asking for. With Mexico's demanding strong money in standard trim before you even modify one results in them being out of bounds for the younger owner.
Plenty of heavily modified versions out there but most are owned by 30+ people.
One on Pistonheads at the moment for 22k (modified) ex Notts car, can't see many young lads buying it.
Great idea for a Programme but maybe needs tweaking a little![](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/roi.gif)

its not just mexicos though sinbad as I know exactly what you mean as I did inform louise of this but she informed me its the person and the car needed so any ford will do thats got decent mods and owned by a youngster
, and the other end of the spectrum is a older sod who was spanner happy in the 70s

Think you'd all be surprised at the amount of under 25's with hot rwd escorts / Anglias etc and done properly too... Just have to hang about in that scene and know a few people. As said before Simon Woolley should be able to get this chick in touch with at least a half dozen, all with proper cars.
