Default Engines for type 9

Hi all, I'm desperate to know what engines will easily and cheaply attach to a type 9 gearbox. They don't have to be ford but I'm looking to get about 170bhp out of it. My budget is not that big so I can't spend thousands tuning it either.

Many thanks,

Cossyworth

For 170 I'd go pinto, but most ford stuff will work easily enough, maybe a 16 valve rs2000 lump?

170bhp from a pinto is not cheap though, weber 45's and racing cams or even a turbo manifold no of them are that cheap

Well its not that expensive, twin 45s ye, big valves, and a decent cam should get you most of the way there, or just go with my second choice.

170bhp thru a type 9 will prob blow up the box anyhow if the torque is there to match
anything non ford will be expensive by time you get the bell housing etc or i'd recommend a xe(redtop)
on a budget i'd say a fairly lively pinto will get you 140-150bhp without a huge investment if your clever sourcing the parts
