Default 3dr sierra info needed please

does anyone know why 3dr sierra's (and others) have vents fitted in the floor pan under the drivers and passenger footwells and also in the rear of the car. as they are covered by that rubberised matting which is stick down quite well i realy don't see what purpose they serve, or am i missing something?
also are there any threads on here explaining how to weld seams and where the seams should be welded for rally use. i have had a look through and can't see anything. pic of vents included so you all know what i mean. as usual any info greatly appreciated. thanks.

there crumple zones as afaik. I had every seam between the front and rear turrets seam welded on my shell. if you get the grp.a build book (you can usually download it from the net) it'll show must things you need.

they're e-coat access/drainage holes, nothing to do with crash design

I would of said drainage holes for the dipping process

I would'nt of thought they'd of put crumple zones in the passenger compartment myself

wouldn't have thought the ones in the footwells are drainage as they are too big an area. they have the shape in the floor to carry any water or whatever from these to the floor bungs though.
