Company Car Swap - Should I do it?
Evening all
One of the lads is leaving our place this fri and my boss has offered me to swap my company car for his if I want to, but I'm in 2 minds.
My current car is a VW Passat CC Bluemotion in full GT spec - it's got everything you could think of and more and is frankly a fucking lovely motor, best I've had. It's also brilliant on fuel, averaging over 50mpg combined and never less than 60 on the motorway - best I've seen was 70mpg from Brum to Blackpool at a steady 70.
The car I've been offered if I want is a BMW 318d in essentially pikey spec - it has 18" alloys and leather but very little beyond that.
Both are 2012 on 12 plates and are company cars so it won't cost me a penny (infact BMW might be cheaper as less tax).
To be honest I love my car and all the kit on it, but the chance to drive a 3 series is proving to be a bit of a draw - despite the fact I have always thought people driving poverty spec beeemers are posing cunts who should have bought the top of the range vw/ford/vauxhall etc - especially if the BMW is in white which this one is!
My car is 170bhp and the beemer 143 so not a huge difference but a difference nonetheless.
Head says keep the VW, just can't help thinking it would be nice to drive round in a beemer someone else is paying for....

No brainer mate, keep what you have got.
The bmw is a nice car but a 318 is nothing special and with basic spec even less appealing. Add to that they are turd in the snow and winter is a breath away, don't snow much but admittedly but when it does it can be shite.
Rear wheel drive fun people scream about, well maybe on something with fire in it's belly but I had a 123d M sport couple and to be honest you very rarely noticed the difference. I now have a scirocco GT and it's really nice and easy to drive.

Is it a new F30 3 Series?
They drive very well and you could save some money in Co car tax. Thats the plus's...
Minus's being what others have mentioned, loss of spec, poor winter handling etc etc. nothing a good set of winter tyres cant sort though

You will massively regret the BMW. The vw is higher spec and drives nicer. I tried a 3 series when changing my co. car. Poverty spec, didn't see what the hype was in the end got a top spec skoda superb and loved it.
Also if you hate the BMW it may be too late to swap back.

i have a vw diesel and a 330bmw, i could not think of a reason to swap out a top spec vw diesel for a pov spec 3 series, even my 3.0 I6 is sluggish, can't imagine how dull the 318 would be.
got to love a vw diesel, they pull well at 170bhp
