Default Kaaz Diff?!?!?!

Anyone running this in their Focus RS MK1?

As i'm currently sorting a Fast Road/Track Car, whats this diff like on the road?

I've heard it's better than the ATB, doesn't torque steer viciously and is a nice drive. However, I would like to hear opinions from people running them.

Much Appreciated!

Cheers

How much better is it on the road?

As i'm aiming for 360/380bhp, I know on the standard ATB has its limits and can be darn right terrifying on the road as the diff become very unpredictable.

not sure about road really as only done about 10 miles off the track, but compared to my old atb its night and day, plus you can change ramp angles to suit your needs.

The kazz will be no different, its just that the gripper unit is uk built so easier for servicing etc.

Ive driven a lot of rwd stuff with 2 way plated diffs and really good to use, just in some cases a little noisy

If you read the Focus MK1 RS development info thread I posted on here, it mentions that It's more the suspension geometry that makes them torque steer rather than the diff alone. I've used Quaife ATB (and Peloquin, the US copy) in 200 ish hp Golfs and they don't suffer the same torque steer.

i didn't have twitching issues with my atb in my old mtx75 box, and i reckoned on over 400bhp with 2BAR through the gt3071r.
kaaz will just be better for straight line, not as forgiving in the corners though.

Well, after reading the development thread, I'll get the geometry set up correctly and see what happens. Would prefer to keep the ATB diff.

Thanks lads!

It's not a case of simply setting up the geometry, it's a design fault from widening the track on FRS from stock Focus.

I can't be 100% sure. The torque steer problem was, as far as I heard from people who likely weren't being very charitable about it, a geometry stuff up when the track was widened from the standard C170. The guy doing the design apparently held the scrub radius fixed, instead of the king pin offset. I'm not a chassis guy myself, but the kinematics of such a suggestion makes sense, although I'm sure there's always a compromise to be reached in all of this.

bit of a sweeping statement, I have owned and driven and still use a fwd with a plated diff, and they are great, better than my old atb in fact.

I have asked a few owners and the best way to lower the torque steer through the steering is to have the car 4 wheel aligned. Most cars that left the factory were not aligned correctly due to the track being widened. Which is why the torque steer effected some and not all. Some cars were as bad as 12mm out.

So will have everything setup correctly and see how I get on. Can't be too bad if others have set their ones up this way.
