Default advice needed please zetec engine

Hi allI just purchased a 2005 fiesta zetec s with a engine with a holee in it conrod through the block but says duratec on the air box
So on advice I bought a 1.6 zetec from a early focus but it was advertised as a 98 to 04 but from phoning afew places it will fit
So I got the old engine out and put every sencer wnd auxiliaries etc on the new engine but its a totally different engine*I.e the head is different and the duratec air filter lugs cant be put on*So I carried on regardless and got it back in all plumbed in and now it wont start it turns over fast and it smells of petrol and has a strong spark
So please can some one let me know if this engine is the right one or have I just waisted a day ddoing this*
Thanks in advance

Completely different engine! If you have the engine fitted in place as you say you do then that's a massive portion of work done. But it sounds like you will blow a small crater in the surround vicinity if you get this turned over! So don't bother

I bought it off my mate as at 85 mph he shot the con rod through the front of the block and number 2 piston in about 9 pieces apparently he filled his pants up lol

only bought it as he was gonna scrap it and its to good to go to the scrap yard

its now a perfectly good car not as nice as my old series 1 but will do as a run around

What I meant was what was wrong with the conversion? Why didn't it work first time?
