Default Mate in trouble-wot u reckon

ok guys for those in the know-need to pick ya brains.

ok me mate (who isnt into cars one little bit) drives a vox astra about 8 weeks ago stops at sum lights. A women who was putting lipstick on didnt see the lights change and went into the back of him.

He gets out threatens her etc andthen fooks of thinking oh well its only 2 bumpers, 1 for him and her.

Next thing he knows police are after him because she reported him to police for threatening behaviour. Police give him producers etc.

Anyway it turns out he he forgot about his mot running out 2 days before Gets an mot 7 days later and gives that to the police. He has now been summonsed to court in april. he has a clean license, no trouble with the law etc etc

His letter says he can plead guilty by letter andnot turn up to court or tunr up to court and defend himself. What should he do and waht would his punishment likely to be?
