It's gonna be a lot of work pal. I'm not sure if the con rods are the same as 1.6 cos it's tall block. Costly IMO.

Everyone knows I'm gonna say zetec, but it's down to personal choice. A few of us are doing turbo conversions, cvh are old 8v engines. Zetec aren't quite as old but 16v, strong units and cheap. Like I said its down to personal choice, if you've got plenty of doe go YB.

Any bottom end that goes are scrap. There's a few different types of zetec. I'm building a zetec E blacktop. But like the pumas and fiesta they have zetec se, good engines but when the nikasil linings go on the bore they're scrap. Then the duratecs which are very similar to zetecs. The old Zetec E's are IMO the most reliable of them. I bought mine for Ł75. So if it blows ill get another.

If you were to buy it. Esentially all your buying is the bare block 4 pistons. You'd need to get crank, con rods, head and that's just basics. There's all the little things that add up. It's easier and cheaper to get a zetec engine and turbo it. Or buy a decent cvh turbo straight off. They are 133bhp standard. 2.0 zetecs are that naturally aspirated.

thats what i mean, iv always been told you cant change the cranks or shells, i bought a 1.25 zetec for 100 quid because it needed bottom ends, but i looked on the internet and everywere was saying they cant be done, the haynes manual said the same. so i sold it. can you renew the crank and bearings?

The 1.25 is different, the 1.8 and 2.0 can be rebuilt.
Just built one, replacing the shells

You had the se type. You should be able to replace any part but I'm not sure on these. For how much it costs in time and labour it's not worth it unless its spec'd up to be a monster. If you wanted to turbo go 1.8 or 2.0 you'll get better gains. If your just after a bit more power go for 1.7 puma se or 2.0 zetec silver or black top. Silver tops need sump and water pumps changing.

Try them both. Every issue is different. Do a lot of googling of each type of engine. You'll find the se's are more commonly mated with throttle body's because of their high revvy nature. Zetec E's are more than capable of handling boost so turbo charging suits them. Etc. I can help you along the way if you go turbo. I'm sure most of the lads will give you a hand if u get stuck.
