Default How many Clio Sport owners on here?

Looking for another small hot hatch and it's hard to beat the French when it comes down a hot hatch..

So I am looking at getting a PH1 172, so was wondering how many other people on here owned one (ph1 & ph2's), any good experiences or bad ones?

Tank Mike has been a star and told me what I need to look out for and how to get the best out of them...I'm sure when I do eventually get one, I'll be paying Mike a vist

Also anyone going to be going to Combe for the French Car Show at the weekend?

Not had one myself but know a lot of people with them and bar 1 all love them. Always love driving them, engine mounts seem to break from my experiences.

Chip has loads of experience with these cars

Pound for Pound you can't have more fun.
Ph1's are the lightest of the bunch too.

If insurance wasn't a bastard for me still I'd have one in a flash, can pick a decent one up for £1500 too.

Depends what you are expecting from it.

It will be 10+ years old, all will of been ragged and the interiors are awful.

As long as you go in with your eyes open its a nippy car for not a lot

Had a standard 182 cup as a daily for around 2 years and loved it and bar a pair of rear dampers it never gave any problems.
I not have a fully stripped out 172 cup running cams and throttle bodies, and again it's been faultless on 5 track days so far.

They are great cars, I've had a 172 and I've still got my 172 Cup which I have had from new, great fun on the track as well, more fun than my cossie (when it was running 400bhp). You won't be disappointed with their performance and handling.

I've got a 182 trophy and love it.
Can't go quicker cheaper. ( trophys are about double the cost of a decent cup mind you. If I was on a budget it would be a light blue 172 cup )

I have a 182 its a brilliant little car had a few problems like injectors but I replaced most of the things just so I knew it was all fresh. Done 58k so far oh the alternator died but I'm not worried about that.

Nice to see so many positives on a Ford forum! I used to own a 106 GTI, tho they are very similar performance wise, the clios seem so much easier to live with on a daily basis too

Sorry to high jack the thread, but have recently sold my bmw, and the misses has bought a new car so have been left running around in her old mk7 zetec s, nice car but fancied a 197 to have some fun in whilst i look for the right scirocco.

The 197's as much fun?

Matt - 197 is heavier but handles better.... just as much fun. Recaro's are more common.

OP - do a search dude, there are countless threads on here about 1*2's....

Simply awesome little cars, having owned 3 172's a 182 and my brother having a 200 since new they're simply amazing - for the money.

I swapped down from a 350z and the only thing i really miss is a bit of torque. They handle awsome out the box, much better put together than the 1*2's so no rattles (yet, we'll see if they age well!) Recaros are definately a must!

I have a 172 cup in blue, fun little car, cabin rather loud due to soundproofing removed lighter glass etc.
Having the dephaser and belts changed. Otherwise enjoying it.

I test drove a 172 cup last weekend and it was a bit of a dog, looked tidy on the outside but the engine had problems when it struggling to rev past 5ishk (just started missing and when it got to 6k it wouldn't rev no more) and i also found in the boot there was a small crease in the spare wheel well and after I looked at the bumper and the corners didn't line up well, so glad I left that car lol

I've driven a friends 182 FF with the cup packs and that was a nice car but too common for me, so I decided I need a PH1 172 as they seem the best buy and rare!

Been in a 200 too, again, very nice car, handles alot better than the 182 but seems a bit slower...Im guessing it's a lot more heavier.

There are some very cheap rear wheel bearings around. Always best to just replace discs with genuine Renault ones.

Loved my old flame red Clio and will definitely own another 172/182. Aside from them being bargains they really are great fun and never had any serious issues

Here's a vid of me from National Day. Brief spec is what I would describe as fast road. Cup shocks, Eibach Sportline springs and Whiteline ARB. Still comfortable for the daily commute.
