Default Those cheap rods on the Bay

Anyone used them?
Saw someone mentioned steel rods for around the £200-300 mark for a Zetec?

Simsy tall on here ran his cvh Williams rods at 27psi on a 5th injector mfi s1 with no issues

And in the scooby world they have been in big power builds

And a mate is using a set modified for c20xe pistons in a zetec turbo but as above its not finished yet

Just search williams steel rods and try and find reviews on the net

A tip, my mate with his zetec made a offer of £240 for the Williams rods that are £295 and they guy excepted and they came with arp rod bolts too which makes them a bargain

Interesting, it's not like I'll be pushing limits so I should think they'll be fine then.
What pistons would you guys recommend?

Its not what they look like its what metal they are made of and the quality control over the 4 rods.

Not a risk worth taking to save a few quid. You get what you pay for

You'd like to believe this is true however I have seen countless 'cheap' rods used with no issues. The cheap rods are 100% of inferior material and manufacture however with that in mind are we getting what we pay for with £700-£900 rods or are we paying for what we don't need, lol.

I guess you buy what is relative to you're build. As in you don't put cheap rods in your 200k F1 motor but putting them in your daily, couple of grand build seems....sensible/acceptable??

Depends on power outputs? And is it a zetec?

If around 350bhp in a zetec I know a couple of people who have their rods modded to run c20let pistons and is a cheap conversion

Rods £240 with bolts
Pistons, ( my mate got some nearly new ones £120)
Machining £100

£460 for rods and pistons is mad, and people slate c20let pistons but in the c20let engine the standard pistons piss 400bhp

But put into account a full bottom end balance if using cheap rods and a rebore to 86mm for the pistons

I've had my hands on 3 different sets of the zetec ones (williams, prime, burton), i currently have 2 sets that i can compare side-by-side.

I know plenty of chinese rods that are in budget competition engines and haven't been an issue at all. If you purchase eagle rods from the states, they too state on the box that they are made in china.

Nothing wrong with them at all really, just make sure they're using good quality fasteners

A friend had 4 examined and they weren't all the same material.

Usually China will make the rods from cheap bar ends or off cuts. Some will be ok, others not.

i spose if you are doing the build yourself you take the risk if they are not up to the job of a high power build.

if someone else is doing the work for you, i think they would recomend using quality parts, so they only have to do the job once.

i dont know a thing about the rods spoke of by the OP but to go to all the effort of a rebuild and use cheaper components seems a little silly, unless the budget is so restrictive and you are doing the work yourself anyway.

I know of a few cars running MaxSpeeding rods off ebay,
Running happily at 350bhp in a mk6 rs2000 Turbo
They were all weighed and checked before fitting and there was way under a gram difference between them.
Very good rods it would seem.

Also know of a Audi TT running the same brand rods, Currently running at 400+bhp.

Nothing wrong with them imo.

Nothing wrong with them as long as you have them weight matched/balanced!

China rods off of the bay for the engine Mark refers to were quite oval on the big end and as stated, a gram or so out.

I have also used IKE rods, mid range rods that seem pretty good but even those needed matching up as was out on weight.

Only rods I have that are mint out of the box are Arrow, but they were £800+

I chose to fit Arrow in my engine
