Default Sti or evo for track days

Could post on the jap forums but they all bias,d to which forum there on?

A lot of people on here have had both and was looking for genuine advice
Have a bug sti at mo 350 but also have chance to get a evo6.
Have the 7 still but that won't go near the track tbh
How good is the sti to the evo both at same power(350ish)

i had a 300bhp scoob, then a evo 7 with a bit more power at 419bhp
obviously the evo is faster,
but handling wise and fun factor for sliding etc
i'd go with the evo every time, they're just the better track car in my experience

I'd say evo all the time as Ive worked on a few scoobies and had 2 with similar issues due to track days being starved of oil (maybe badly maintained) but all my yrs being on the tools Ive never touched and evo which must be a good sign, on the plus side evo have a better grin factor

Not bad mate thanks for the track time
Just wanted some advice on which way to go Geoff
Car went well tbh but needs the usual track stuff!
Just how strong is the sti engine etc and how reliable etc
But to be fair better than I thought,

Yeh true both had the same gravity wear marks at the bottom of the block from the pistons ovulating the bores and severe scoring on the crank, that's there only downfall really

From what I've heard as I'm on mlr a lot the scoobs engines aren't that strong and I've heard people call them chocolate engines. However this is biased as it is an Evo forum

At the power basher is running , he doesn't have any problems !!

And has done plenty of hard days in it !

So based on that , it would be Evo !!

Your scoob looks well , but I am always wary of the engines !

I know that Evo went bang on national day , but I think it was running big power !
Evo 380 bhp
K sport brakes
Slicks
Tein remote adjustable coilovers
Boost controller

Job done !!

Oh and transit boost pipes

Was it a 2.2 or 2.3 stroker? Cause think they only last about 40 or 50 thousand miles before the go bang?

evo's do suffer oil starvation probs same as pretty much everything else
most BIG power cars run dry sumps, only realy needed if your going over 600bhp on slicks
scooby's do as well as do most
scooby's always seem to pick up on no.4 big end and knock, or melt no.4 piston
any sump baffle or big wing sump etc will always help if done correctly
with any 4x4 the transmission will be a problem
with a scoob you want a 6sp as they're a LOT stronger but not geared great for track use
the 5sp box, well lets just say you'll get good at changing them
with the evo its the opposite, the 5 sp box is the stronger box and better geared(quite close), the 6 sp box will self destruct on track pretty quickly

having set both GC8+hawk eye and Evo 2/3/4/5/6/7 up for tarmac use and track use

it has to be the Evo 5/6 all day long.

loose the yawn control, 480-400, propper suspension, propper tyres and a propper geometry setup and it will wipe the floor with most things

Me personally it would have to be evo everytime! My brother competes in the sprits and hill climbs in my old evo 4 and since tuning it up lastyear has had no problems whatsoever! He has also set 2 class record times this year but from me watching trackside scoobs dont seem reliable conpared to the evo's. as for oil starvation you not just uprate lash adjustors?

Totally agreed

We ditched the gsr running gear and switched to rs set up. Put on ohlins gas damper suspension, some soft kumo tyres and before its last mapping session was running 464bhp and 405 f/lb torque.

wi normally used Reiger stuff but it is fortunes,

brakes are the biggest thing on an Evo that make a difference over 300bhp

besides Alcon gpA stuff, we used cheapo XYZ 380??mm fronts

lost nearly 20 seconds off a 7 at the ring on same car with same spec just by changing the brakes

Totally agree. When my dad went from 350ish bhp on his 6 too just under 600 bhp it was bloody quick but you get use to it. But when he changed the breaks over to ksports is when it still surprises me the way it stops!
