Default Nearly given a ticket for a legal plate!! WTF?!?

Got a tug off the police this morning for speeding which regardless of how annoying and petty is my fault. After getting reported for that the traffic policeman tells me he is going to issue me with a ticket for my illegal number plate.

I told himcalmly and as politely as I could that the plate was legal and he got arsey showing me his plate telling me it must be exactly like that. So I pointed out the marking on my plate "BS AU 145d" at which point he told me to wind my neck in. Frustrated and annnoyed over the speeding ticket I retorted by telling him he should perhaps be trained beyond holding a speed gun and hiding behind road signs and hedges

It's not big and it's not clever but I may have reacted in a similar fashion if faced with a "I know everything" attitude !

When will the minority of Police learn that they uphold the law, they do not practice law and as such have a relatively limited knowledge of it.

I'm guessing you've never had a tug over the plate before ?

How much was the ticket for the plate? Can something not be done about that fine?

Some of the German pressed plates are perfectly legal but after speaking to about half a dozen Police officers its apparent that there are a few views regarding what is legal and how to deal with what they consider to be outside of the law regarding fonts and spacing ect.

Nothing is wrong with the plate, it is a 100% legal plate and was purchased as such right down to the British Standard markings. He didn't like the letters for some reason

All cops who do not know the law and try to deliberately issue wrongful tickets need reported for their incompetence.

Who knows what other dodgy tickets have they issued to other people who havent questioned it etc ?

Not the coppers choice so will have to wait and see. Don't really want an SP30 to keep my SP50 company but what will be will be.

Anybody that knows mw knows I'm chilled out and try and be diplomatic. I am very careful with the police on the whole as I deal with them for work so don't want any bad attitude stories getting back to my management.

128 last year, served a short ban and have been a lot slower since. Not slow enough it would seem.

I was pulled for my plate on the saff which to my knowledge was legal and it has the bs marking in the corner which I pointed out to the copper. According to the officer it is illegal to have the rsoc logo (or anything else) where the eu blue/yellow thing is. All the letters are the right size and font but he was adamant the plate was illegal

So police are just dull as fuck and bored so thay just want something to do.( my cousin's words not mine and hes a copper lol)

How ever some people would say that it in proves the looks. So why shouldn't they have a non standard plate as long as its legal?
Personally I would use a standard plate.

thats the point though, a non standard plate is not legal as anything other than standard is illegal.id also argue against the fact that a non standard plate offers anything to improve the overall look of a car.

Has anyone been pulled for having motorcycle letters on a Car number plate ?

Technically it should still be legal and looks better.

I bet your plate had BS AU 145c on it. Plate law is not enforceable retrospectively hence black silver plates being legal on cars pre 1974, as such your plate was legal. 145d is the most up to date plate legislation.

Can't get pic of my plate up as Photobucket won't let me access the url for the image. It's a normal plate though so nothing to see really.

i would have just taken a pic of the copper with number on show next to your plate and accepted the ticket.
then challenged it with vosa or whoever.
would have come unstuck then if it was ok.

I am an MOT tester. Borders, pictures at the side etc don't come into it. Basically the plate has be white or yellow, reflective background, and letters of standard size and font spaced correctly.
The police don't have a clue about car laws. Most of the traffic cops would give you a ticket for a legal tyre because they don't understand the rules. (A vosa VE told me this)

^^^ so this isnt true ?
New changes to the legislation state that all cars registered after 1st September 2001 must include the name and postcode of the plate supplier as well as the BS AU 145d marking. If either of these markings are not included, the vehicle will fail its MOT test.
Number plates must also be displayed as the standard reflective yellow and white plates with black lettering. The lettering must conform to the standard size and font and the plates must not have any emblems or logos (other than the standard GB/England/Wales/Scotland emblems) and should not be cracked, damaged or osbcured by dirt in any way.

It used to be. They brought that silly rule about the postcode in for about a year I think before it was removed a couple of years ago. When you buy new plates you have to show your logbook or they are classed as show plates only but for mot purposes it's not relevant.

my car is not standard but the plates are getting frustrated with the limitations of the car, then improving it is one thing but I never saw the point in changing the plate. Each to there own!

I agree that is doesn't give a better overall look of a car and personally wouldn't bother changing from a standard plate, other will disagree tho!

I beg to differ on a 3 Door Cosworth having a full sized number plate blocks off the air flow to the intercooler thus increasing ACT's so I have a smaller plate that doesn't interfere with the air flow so I have performance enhancing front number plate.

my dad lived in austria and would come to england regulerly to see me often by car. They introduced new plates over there in the 90s and you could have whatever you wanted really. He had my forname and i got pulled a couple of times driving his car here cos the police did'nt think it was a real plate, anyway over there trailers have there own reg plate number and he was gonna get CUNT 1 and come over with it see how many times we got pulled
