Default Seat Cupra R. Your Thoughts

Thinkin about gettin a more modern car.
Been lookin at the cupra r 225's.
What are peoples thoughts on them with everyday living and tuning potential ?
Heard 270 is easy to get with a few bolt on mods and a re map.
I think for the money they look very very smart. I just want something more modern.

There are some great examples out there for cheap ish money

Thats a shame. They r just under 1400kg as well so there not that light either. But i would think the re mapped ones 260/70bhp must go ok.ish

250 with a map, 270 with full exhaust/downpipes. Then it's time for a hybrid turbo and injector change for upto 350. After this you need to look at the bottom end. Great engine though, I have a customer running 550bhp.

They go very well indeed with a few bits. The VAG 1.8T lump is pretty tweekable. Leon is a good option too if you want something a bit bigger.

Lol at the above, its a waste of time because a Merc cossie is faster, yeah definitely not worth having then!?

That's like saying I can't buy a two bedroom house because my mates got a three bedroom and its better

If you like it buy it, I think there nice looking motors

Either the person driving the Cupra R couldn't be arsed or there was something wrong with it.

I liked the Cupra R's when I worked for a Seat dealer, my only real criticism of them would be about the interior, I thought the seats were shite (unless you get one with the optional Recaro's - rare as hens teeth) and the material they were trimmed in is dire!!!

I thought they were good cars on the whole though. They go quite well as standard and I worked on quite a few remapped ones and they went very well indeed!

quickish tunable car, i'd buy one if i felt the need for a small hatch again.
remap and a few other tweaks they are much better.
i do sort of agree with the 330d though, i have a 330 petrol and goes well, the diesels after a remap would be surprisingly quick, rwd fun and a bit more status than a vw.

A standard Cupra R would piss a standard Merc 190 Cossie IMO.

I've driven both and the Seat was the better car but then again they're both very different cars and from very different era's.

Shody build quality - watch for the leaking through the doors.
Clutch pedals are made from monkey metal and shit plastic and do break which is fun.

Other than that - yeh, smart and cheap and quick enough.

the leaking doors are from door seals going over time and is cheap and easy to fix.
The pdeal issue can be fixed by a quick weld on the weak brake pedal issue
some cars do suffers electrical gremlins (coil packs) but they do come with a nice Brembo's, a decent Recaro interior and look good.
GTI Inters is only £15 and free for under 15's!
I'm going on sat with my mates now so cant wait as the weather will be top!

if you're deffo soing to get one then join the seatcupra.net forum fo further info. some decent peeps on there

I think the ST would swollow to much money to get good bhp as they r only a shit 230 bhp and with all the problems of weak blocks crackin and that. Ive never come across a fast ST .
Even been lookin at mazda mps i know they are very similar to the focus.

Ive got a 2001 Cupra (AUQ engine) as my daily, had it nearly a year now and it had leaky door seals when I got it but that was an easy fix and apart from that all I have done is change the thermostat, a pair of bottom arm bushes, ball joints and both rear wheel bearings. Just servicable items really, no mechanical issues. Its Revo mapped and its never going to win any land speed records but has enough go to be able to entertain yourself on twisty roads and is pretty decent on fuel too when on a run and liveable round the doors. Mine cost me £800, with some history, it had a recent belt service done and still had 9 months tax and test on it. I would consider an R after owning mine.

REVO the best mapp for vags mate in my oppinion had my mk4 golf mapped by them it done over 100k with mapp still running when smashed 80mph in to a wall still drove the car 5miles to my home vags are good cars but once you drive a bmw as a daily just changes the way you think of vags are alot cheaper to run but bmws are cheap enough now lol

If you lads went to Google we would not have all this crap.

Cupra R
0-60 6.9
0-100 16.0
MAX 150

Merc Cosworth
0-60 7.3
0-100 16.1
MAX 143

No way a tuned Cupra will get beat by a standard Merc tank another bullshitter outted im afraid.

You've never come across a fast ST? Really?? I know one running 450bhp with NOS, and one running 500bhp! And I'm currently running 320-330 and would bury a Cupra R with ease. The mods aren't massively expensive for large power increases. Once you get over 350 it's time for hybrid turbo but that's high enough for most

204bhp these merc cosworths aren't they, not exactly up with standard power of 225bhp on a cupra r is it really, hell my 330 would beat that and it weighs a bloody tonne!

cupra r's are fair quick off the shelf, never mind a remapped one.

Look for a Mk1 RS cos you can't pick up a good Mk2 for less than £21k-£23k+
