Jim Green..........Alive and well in Mexico.
Hi Guys, and anyone who's wondered where I am.
I'm still alive and well, and working overseas for P&O Shipping (As Usual). Ship is working out of Los Angeles doing seven day mexican cruises. The good news is that I get a chance to go on a genuine Baja Race next week in a fully prepared Baja Racer. It's a short race compared to the marathon jobs they have out here, this one's just a two hour race, but got an invite to go as co driver on this event.
Really looking forward too it as I'll be doing it in a Porsche 911 powered Baja Racer with 320bhp and loads of torque. Will let you know how we get on later.
Just looking forward to coming back to the UK (First Week In June) and getting the new engine that Karls prepping back into the cossie.
How's the head coming on Karl ?????
All the best
Jim Green

Hi Guys
Working on Cruise Ships ain't half what it's thought to be. Try working every day for six month, Yep, I do mean EVERY DAY, starting work at 5:30 EVERY DAY for six months, and finishing at about nine every night. No days off for six months, snotty passeners who think they something special, can't get pissed otherwise you get breathalyzed and sent home (At your own Expence). Absolute totally crap lifestyle and I've resigned. Been doing it for 14 years, but it ain't what it used to be.
Only have a couple of months left and I'm done and get the golden handshake for my 14 years of misery and and been in a prison (Never get time off to go ashore). I've had one day off the ship in three months. It's modern day slavery, and your treated like shit. At least my golden handshake will be enough to set me up in a little business, so I'm just holding on for the last couple of months to qualify (14 Years to the day.... ) And I'm off.
Just ask RAB...... He used to work for one of our competitor cruiselines, and believe me they're all the same. 14hr days, for six months non stop, treated like shit, and have to bow and scrape to Obnoxious Americans who all they want to do is complain. If the average brit trips on a step, they think what a prat and hope nobody noticed. If an american does the same he want''s to take the company to court and blame everybody but themeselves, and this is what I have to deal with.
Just think about it...... If you make someone a nice cup of hot coffee, and the person spills it over themselves...........You get taken to court and get you butt sued. (Macdonalds...... Now we know who to blame for not getting a decent cup of hot coffee)
Or you can be a well known american football player..... Kill your wife, and get away with it That's the american mentality I have to deal with all the time. I know they're all not the same, but the ones that come on cruises all fit into this class.
RAB : Well done for getting out matey, I know you'll enjoy working on the grey funnel line much better,
Will put some pics up of the Baja Race soon, had a great time and ended up 17th out of 42 in our class. Didn't drive in the race, just too and from the event. Great fun and plenty of butt bruises to prove it. These things spent more time in the air than on the ground. Good news is we finished the event without any breakages (Apart from me).
Back home in June, All the best to everyone
