Default Drifting!?

Just seen Clarksons motorworld and he was in Japan, He went to a drifitng event, but is it only me that think drifiting is a bit of a waste of time? Yeah ok have a little go for a laugh but events? I much prefer "taditional" racing and then if they go to fast and get a wobble on far more entertaining than driffiting with purpose cars for that.

I dunno, but just a thought am i the only one who thinks its all a bit pointless?

Same as some people dont like drag racing i guess. "whats the point, your only driving in a straight line, boring" etc etc

Everyone likes different things.

Proper drifting can be at over 100mph tho, so its not exactly slow.

But its not a race, its just who can show off the best.

I think youl find a fair few people dont like drifting, same as everything else.

To be honest tho, from what ive seen, most the people who DONT like it, or DO like it, have fuck all experience of it anyhow barring maybe watching a piss poor vid, so dunno how they can comment

A lot of drifting i see on vids etc its totally understandable why people see it as pointless tho TBH!

People should go to a proper judged D1 event and then make their mind up, you see a point to it then

IMO its awesome when done properly and foooken shite when goons who THINK they can drift but cant have a go and either get small power slide out of bend or end up spinning.

The proper jap stuff is foooken mental, also love it when they do it up really tight mountain roads.

so to you Rhys

Ok, it's entertaining to watch people who are good at it but I agree with Rhys.

It's not a 'proper' motorsport IMO

Like i said, you need to have actually been to a proper timed event to realise its just as much a competition as anything else.

Infact is much more motorsport or competition than any RWYB or track day as you actually ARE competing against others, proper rules, proper judges, proper prizes.

Of course it's not proper motorsport.

The only proper motorsport is rallying

Drifting will soon be much bigger in the UK and will require entrants to have Motorsport Licences etc.

I think its the nuts. Yeah, the Showing-off side of it is good, but to watch 2 cars drifting properly is immense. There is a Video I have seen of the HKS S15 (driven by Nobuteru Taniguchi I think), which if only I had a link to it to host on here. It is AWESOME.

YOU ALLREADY HAVE TO!

From this season onwards you have to have passed your drifting licence (its free to take test) to be able to compete in anything but non-judged practive events.

Its a proper sport...

It's an art imo to be able to drift like some can
It'd deffo not easy, getting the back end to step out is easy but to be able to control it lap after lap if fookin hard

I think i've managed to string a few corners together n thats about it
More practice me thinx, but it's deffo the way to go

i've had my fooker sideways a few times on the old roundabouts, it gets hairy as fook once you get the opposite lock on for half a doughnut.

and theres a few good downloads of the japs doing it on the web.

i think its cool to watch.
