Brill cars tho in all forms, the E46 is a mile more defined than my E30, but again both wicked cars.

Yes, you can chip/zort/filter them

Mines just creeping up on 140k, nothing wrong with it. If ya don't mind me asking, how much for a new enigne ?

vanos is variable cam timing... like honda v-tec but better!

tired at 140k??? I bet its not!! They go forever, if you forget about failing vanos units!

300k is not unknown at all!

Its not a ford engine so is designed for more than 120k miles use!!!!

Got to agree with Alex, no way is the engine tired at 140k! properly looked after it will go on and on and on....

The VANOS units are well known for failing left right and centre BUT I believe the problem is much more common in the M3 EVO with the Double VANOS system. Its why some people go for the Non-Evo M3 instead... oh and the 5speed box is stronger and better on them too.

Great cars the E36, love em. Dave I can see this being the end of the Cossie though! you will be selling both and getting an E46 M3 before you know it! Seen them at £25k now as well

Dave my bmw has done 146k and is still strong!!!

As you know mine is a e34 535i and is much better build quality than the cossie .
Would like to compare it against a 325i as mine is supposed to be 215bhp but is proberbly heavier than your e36.
When ive got the clutch done we shall have to have a blast lol, and a trip to halfords car park basildon for some fun

The Vanos went on my cousin's M3 Evo and he was quoted close to a grand by Heathrow BMW then he took it to a BMW specialist who had a look and took the unit apart and replaced a buggered washer or something and i think the total part cost was 2p think he paid labour but it was not that much.

Good cars but i would still keep the cossie as BMWs are not as quick

cheers guys. Cant wait to get it back. I agree lee.. probably will end up with an E46 M3. Ive always said so and at 25k.. who can refuse..

i want to enjoy the cossie for a bit first, then put it up for sale. The work being done cant hurt its resale value

Nice cars the e46 m3 but at 25k i doubt it will come with the boomb proof warranty that you really will need.Best to buy one at a main dealers!

The bottom ends can let go on the e46 and destroy the engine, big end shells were manufactured too close tolerance to the crank and at 8k revs
The vanos though doesnt go on these but over rev is another issue bent valves ect not uncommon.

The E39 M5 is cheaper though-superior in every area and has a better image, the engine is also stronger

I think youre making the right choices dave. Cossies are the bollox, but IMO dont look fook all as good as these. The e46 M3 is an awesome car....

This e46 convertible does it for me
