If you have access to a halfords trade card it works out £17 a bottle. My mondeo was empty and one bottle later it was fully charged.

I have one of those cards, only thing is I take it you need to buy the trigger/guage part as well unless its go it built onto can, which makes its nearly same price as kwik fit etc

Yes the trigger has a gauge as well, I bought the kit myself ages ago, also got some kind of anti-bacterial treatment for the inside of the car , only to discover the system had a leak , still have it now, although in any case I wouldn't be going to Kwik Fit, as I bet in my case if I did they would still charge even know it doesn't work!

kwik fit have a money back garantee so if the temps don't come down they won't charge you

so if you have a hole in the system the vac finds it and doesn't put any gas inside

they also stick in some oil as well which oyu need to lubricate the system

it's not the best set up ever but it's good enough for those times when you've just run out of gas over time

Use a reputable company that will properly leak test the system before recharging, not the usual high st outlets. I am in air con , but not automotive. Anyone can bang some refrigerant in there and not understand whats happening or issues .

as dojj hints, use a place where you don't pay if it doesn't improve the vent temps. then disconnect every connector and fuse in the system that you can find so that even with a nice full charge the a/c will not actually work

as to your mate thinking that they did a good job taking all of the old stuff out before filling it up again - the machine only has one bottle so what you get filled into yours is a mixture of what has come out of everybody elses

I would remove the refrigerant if it didnt work.

Plus the pre checks would show the compressor as not working unless system was completely empty with no pressure, so I wouldnt be recharging anyway.

1 is for new oil, 1 is for the oil removed the other is for uv dye, I think foreignrs is refering to the tank that holds the refrigerant
