Default 1.8 Zetec on Carbs ?

Hi passionforders !, new guy here/longtime lurker, always been into cars mainly older fords in recent years - i'm no expert when it comes to engines but have had a little play around, was always into 2-strokes when I was younger, ripping them to pieces rebuilding & modifying them, anyhow its good to finally be registered and have a topic to post about.

I'm looking for a little more grunt out of my car (mk6 escort 1.6) and have been toying with loads of ideas including going ZT turbo but think that would be too in-depth for a first timer having to replace internals etc. sooooo started looking at the idea of bike carbs, either ZX9R ? R1 carbs ? on a 1.8 zetec. question mainly is, what would be needed ? aftermarket management ? where would I get the intake manifold ? would it pass MOT or fail due to emissions ?

I know theres gonna be people saying go straight for the 2L zetec, but ideally I wanna just go for the 1.8.

cheers in advance

Ash

just been reading about the Bogg Bro's + chester sportscars Carb Kit, looks o.k for £750.00, maybe worth going straight for this as it looks to be pretty much plug & play (as such) anyone had this kit ?

That would be the best and easiest option really. I've not used the kits but spoke to the guys at Bogg Bros and Chester Sports cars before and both seem to offer good, usable packages. Should be easy enough to fit as well.

cheers for the response mate, tbh thats the only kit I have found & reckon I will ever find readily available like that, otherwise it would be messing about at breakers trying to get specific carbs, get an inlet made up etc.

also been reading that the fuel pump would need changing, would you know if this applies to that kit ?

on an off note, your motor looks the nuts !!, saw it at ford fair last year and on the front of a classic ford mag ! do you know glen williams who built the bike carb'd zetec anglia ?

Cheers! Yeah, I've met Glen, nice guy!

And yes, best off to use a bike fuel pump. Both those companies should be able to supply one.
