Exclamation Iveco Daily Help! Its costing a arm and leg!

Hello,

So my old man has got a Iveco daily on a 56 plate and its just cost him £1000 on a 02 sensor and a valve... I think EGR valve, it then had to be put on the computer so it all works ok...

This morning he could not put the key in I believe i need a ignition barrel now! He had the AA out and he hit it with a hammer then the key went in Ive kept the key in but thats not always good to do.

Can a locksmith sort this out of me? I would of thought the pins just need redoing?

Iveco told me they want £300 for the barrel + vat then fitting on top! Plus once more it needs to go on a computer so it all works again! It cost about £150 to go on the computer

Think Iveco have taken him for a mug already!

Any help please.

you should try some penetrating oil! before the hammer and maybe a little heat on the key blade.

I use crafty rost off from wurth or a PTFE lubricant!

While the key is on you can whip out the barrel and then fit new with a matching key or get a barrel kit and make the lock match your existing key
If you locate a new barrel and key transfer the chip or keep the old Kay nr the new one so the van sees the correct chip

I had a 29l9 which I used as a moto x van.A bit older than yours ,mine was a X plate.Mint van coming from a smiley Transit but absolutely shit on fuel The ignition packed up on that.I ended up swapping it and sticking it up inside the dash with the coded key.I think the new barrel cost me about £25.Egr light was always on and off .

For a cheap way around it you can get a second hand ignition and key, use the old key and tape it inside the antenna which fits around the ignition lock. Obviously you need a spare key though so you can still lock the doors etc.

Have you got key insurance on your policy ??

If so,,,, fuck where did I put my car keys

It's generally seperate insurance like windscreen so don't affect no claims

Putting the chip in the ignition colomn is 1 thing but leaving the whole key in there would be stupid

Its common practice. The only reason I got my Iveco was that my mate had them as a company van (free spares). There is a guy local who used to repair that companys vans.He breaks Ivecos only.Key zip tied to the transponder, stuffed up the dash and a new ignition with no chipped key.A lot less expensive than trying to replace everything and nobody would know any different.

Iveco charge 1000 pound for a new ignition barrel and key.For some reason i think we are getting ripped off.

The egr valves a nightmare to do.

Why is it stupid to leave the key in the transponder ? If you have changed the barrel and key the old key is useless anyway ...
