Fil - took about 6 weeks from start to finish and I got paid out the full amount it was insured for less me excess. Personal posessions wise I lost out as my phone was in there, 3 pairs of expensive glasses and a stereo system worth over Ł3k. Only got paid out Ł500 in total for these but probably my own fault for not removing beforehand. I had to buy a cheap smoker for the time being whilst it was being sorted. I had a phone interview from a third party company about the incident and they put lie detectors on the line (lots of fraud these days), fortunately mine was legit so all was ok.
Rudders666 - I have 20mins of CCTV footage taken from the driveway, at the time the Police didnt want me to upload it.
Fil - if you want a copy of the disc (got it somewhere!) pm me your address, it may help in aiding the police?

Its a voice stress analysis program.
However they aren't usable in court for numerous reasons as well as the fact it only detects stress and not lies so its totally open to interpretation by different operators.

I had one of those phone interviews with the claim handling company.. They made me feel like the criminal for 'allowing' someone to break into my house and steal the keys to my cars..
The whole 20 mins felt like they were delibarately trying to catch me out asking the same questions over and over to see if I give a different answer and if I had it felt like that would have been a good enough reason for them not to pay out.... it was a horrible experience to go through only a coupe of days after it happened..
if you have to do one just be prepared for a right grilling..

not sure where you stand now, if youve made a claim and not been paid out and they find it, do you get it back, will it be on the hpi, i don't think you will get the pay out and the vehicle, probably just get it returned less your excess

When I got my Skoda back after it was stolen last year the ins co paid out for the body work repairs but any 'hidden damage', thrashed engine, gearbox or clutch damage that might show up in a month or two would be down to me.. as for it being recorded as stolen recovered the ins co said they would just remove the 'stolen marker' from the database so it would have a clean history.. there was no offer of compensation to cover the loss of value with the cars less than perfect history.. still not sure how that's worked tbh as there's no denying it was stolen and recovered and that's the point of the HPI check right ??
Anyway when it was all completed my car was clear on HPI but Experian still showed a record of it being stolen..
If you end up in this situation then make sure you check all the agencies show a clean record and if not make sure the ins co do a proper job removing the stolen marker or else you end up more out of pocket than you already are..
You lose out either way, you lose you excess, end up with a car worth less than it was and you end up with a fault claim against your name and if they write the car off then the fault claim is even bigger..
Both my cars were fully insured but we've lost Ł100's this year and will be paying higher premiums for car insurance for the next three years.. it's a shitty situtation just because some scum bag thought they could make a quick buck from someone elses property...

If the insurance company have gone through the correct steps, and the claim is going through ok you DO NOT have to accept the car back.
In your case as it was for sale just continue with the theft payout...
As no-one wants to buy a very recently Stolen/Recovered vehicle regardless of cost.

that's what I thought smit, will be hard to sell, I wouldn't buy something that's just been nicked and recovered in the last few weeks. unless very cheep.
so kind of don't want it back as will be stuck with it, but not sure where I stand currently, will see what happens with insurance, was just over 6 weeks ago it got stolen , before being recovered.

Unless it has been paid out, then it shouldn't have a stolen recovered marker against it?? A mate of mine had his evo stolen, was recovered a week later, he pointed out several marks across almost every panel and some damage to the wheels, full respray and wheel refurb was carried out by the insurance, car looked like brand new when it was returned.
Make sure if you do have to have it back, it is carefully inspected from top to bottom before accepting it.

well, good job the police found it! as insurance aint paying out!
great!
gotta sort out picking up and collecting the veical myself.
Have to say the police and port staff have been very helpfull tho.
The policy specifically excludes loss or damage to the vehicle if it has been taken by someone pretending to be a buyer. We refer you to the following section of the policy wording:
Exceptions to Sections A & B
What is not covered
Loss or damage to the insured vehicle where possession of it is gained by deception on the part of someone pretending to be a buyer or someone pretending to act on behalf of a buyer.

appalling!!
What about taken by force by someone posing as a buyer?? ie car jacking? does it count as a robbery/car jacking or "gained by deception"???
Quite worrying really.

Might be worth a word here:

or go to watchdog, as i'm sure plenty of other people would have been caught and screwed over with this exact same clause!

You pay (over the years) thousands to them.. Many times to the same company, the one time you need them, and they won't pay out.. infuriating
Hope it's ok when you get it back.
