The 4wd T3 compressor is slighly larger, bigger opening into the turbo.
Next would be fitting a 360 degree thrust bearing makes them more reliable and last longer.
Some have the rear turbine blades trimed, not sure what the pros and cons are of this though.

Not sure on cost, MT-motorsport i think often has them for sale, refurbed from CR turbo's.
I have a couple of T3's i'm no longer using, one was 4x4 spec with 360 thrust bearing, if you were interested you could have a look as you are not to far away.

Non are roller bearing, i've never seen a T3 converted to Roller bearing.
The one with 360 thrust bearing (prevents forward/rearward movement of the shaft), a couple of thousand miles. They are mix and match at the moment in a couple of boxes.
Give me a bell tomorrow if you like.

I've a spare 4x4 T3 also, havent seen it on a running car but minimal (virtually none) play considering its no oil in it.

Think its standard, still has Lambda in the elbow. Sat in a box, i bought for my Cab project but came to the conclusion a zetec turbo is too much for a cab.
