Bought a cheap 2001 'K74' 2.5TD L200 a few weeks back, it's had a new engine because the last one snapped its crank (common problem apparently). When I bought it, it turned over but didn't fire. Narrowed it down to the crank position sensor. The confusion is the disc/trigger for the sensor. The one fitted looks like this...

Milners list it as a 'Engine crank gear lower flange plate', which is fitted to my crank position sensor. Confused already. When searching for a new disc, this one always turns up...

Because the engine was never 100% complete, I'm now mega confused as to where these two are meant to go! The second disc is too dished to fit the crank sensor where the old flat disc went.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Cheers, Ryan

Just strange, seems fairly hard to find info on them too. Everywhere I look, that second disc (second link) is fitted right where my disc (first link) is. Can't see how it works.
The sensor can be disconnected and tested by cranking the engine, has about 6-8" on loom on it before the plug, quite handy.

The sensor sits perfect on the ring I have fitted, it even looks to have the cut out for TDC. And it does fire up and idle/run ok. The gap is pretty symmetrical either side.
All I'm worried about is not having the timing belt spaced properly, as these engines seem pretty sensitive to anything crank pulley related. Like the vibration damper on the pulley.

I have tried that using pages from a mitsi parts catalogue. If it comes down to it then I will go look at another in a scrappers. Cheers for the help though!

Exactly that. I you do manage to see the breakdown of the crank - has two pulleys for the timing belt and a balance belt. Then the plastic timing cover, then a double pulley for aircon/power steering/alternator. So somewhere I'm between all this sits the crank sensor disc and some other flange/spacers.
If you could have a look I would be over the moon, mate.
