How much for an engine? I'm guessing around 1500, then fitting costs / time,
Just buy a working one tho higher miles, tho the replacement engine you find probably won't be that low,
I'm sure £6k will get you an 06/07 70k one?

He says the engine doesnt sound right could be anything. Theres a valve on them which is common and makes a howling noise or summat. Can't imagine much would be wrong.
I had an 07 done 112k and was MINT. Drove better than an 06 i had later with 45k.
Unless its starved of oil or summat. Someone go have a look and report back? Might just want seal changing and a crank sensor. Unless the DMF is shagged, in the process coating the crank sensor. Thats common on the diesel mondeo's. Even so it's like 4-600 job. I'd have a nosey but im like 4 hours away lol.

Interestingly, it appears to be running in this picture:

But the battery light is on?
If its nothing major then its well worth the money, if he knows more than he's letting on (ragged from cold and fucked oil pump, wrong gear and jumped timing etc) then its still worth what he wants, but if its electrical or something then could be a can of worms. Doesn't look flood damaged or anything.

Battery light is on so possibly alternator failure, which is quite common. The ST has a proper spaz with loads of different electrical faults when the alternator fails or the battery gets weak, alternator can make a horrible noise too. So wonder weather it is just that?

ECU shows crank sensor fault and engine doesn't sound right...
Without going to see it and hear it/drive it, you won't know much more but as said by Richie, alternator is common fault with these hence running with battery light on would point to that. Misfiring/rough idle could put to the dreaded crack liner problem which would satisfy why he states a new engine is required. He must surely have had it diagnosed somewhere to know it wasn't worth fixing otherwise why sell a motor and state new engine required if it was a case of just a faulty crank sensor and alternator?

Mike Brewer will buy this, Ed will then change the oil and plugs and it will be running mint again.

My guess he knows exactly what is wrong, but, hopes that some thinks they know better and think the can fix it for a tenner and buy it.
Personally I think you either go and try and suss the issue in the flesh, or work out the cost for a replacement lump and fitting andif still a good buy.... buy it.
