I'm Thinking about possibly moving on from the saff cossie onto an evo 6.
Wanted to find out anything I should be looking for and anything i should be avoiding etc..
Maybe if anyone has some pics of theirs or good useful info.
Cheers Billy

Ive owned my 6 for the past 5 years. It's been a good car and not given me any major problems. I spent alot when buying and looking for the right, but you pay for what you get imo. I ended up buying a forged stage 1 car producing 410bhp. Also for peace of mind if I wanted to throw on a bigger turbo.
Mine is a import never been undersealed, only used in dry summer months and solid when I take it for a service, so they do last if maintained, service history is a big thing as the intervals are short.
Make sure you use a good evo specialist
Check Ayc lights illuminates with ignition then goes off. (AYC pump)
Whining boxs and diffs bolts
Rotten Fuel filler pipes
Check boot floor, Sills, front inner wings, Doors all these areas tend to rot
Rear spoiler can crack where it meets the boot.
There so many 6 that look pretty ontop, but if underneath is rotten it is pointless
They also had recalls on rear arms and o2 sensor, may be worth checking it been done.
Generally the 4G63T is a reliable engine, and takes well to performance upgrades when looked after. Parts are not cheap, fuel consumption is not great, but that's not what there about.
MLR forum has plenty of information in regards to them

The MR's don't have 5 speeds or RS diffs its only the GT's and RS's that use the proper set-up unless you mean the MR RS but you will be a luckly man you find one of those! I've not had a 6 but had 2 IX's and a VII RS but you defo have to put a bit of money into a Cosworth to get the performance or handling you get from a standard IX the MIVEC and 80 series turbo are a sweet match ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I guess you have to be a cosy owner to love them,
But I found the 400 bhp cosworth to be the most disappointing performance car I've ever driven.
The evo 6 my old man had on the other hand was fantastic. Devastatingly usable almost every were. Not a fan of the ayc feel so it would be an rs for me.
4-5-6 shape evos are on my pre house ownersh list of cars to own.

Sold my 24k mile one in september, was a great car but not suitable for my needs. Great car for the money. just stage 1 tuned 330bhp with some nice little gadgets. I would have another.
I sold it for £7200 if that helps.

Billy I couldn't get rid of mine quick enough
Didn't like it at all
As said very over rated cars that have no build quality about them
Flimsy Interiors
Seats are rubbish for a recaro
And service every 3k that needs to be done either by main or specialist due to Ayc shit
Trust me mate don't bother
Oh and they rott like fuck

I tested a 6TME when looking and HATED it. My mate had a 6 TME from 18 month old and another mate had a GSR at about the same age which I drove lots. At the time I fucking loved it howevere going back to think about buying one at age 9 or so I felt it was very dated on the inside.

I thought I'd get a cheaper evo here in Oz when I moved. A 6 is like £20,000!!!!!

Ayc is easily serviced £10 for oil from the mitsubishi dealer.
Ayc total overall now only costs about £80 for the repair kit(if you have any common basic mechaniacal sense)
I found the seats ok in my VI, and as for interior if you want luxury comforts you buy something else.
I personally dont think they are overated. they are cheap £/£ bhp fun.
Theres plenty out there now for sub £5k that are good useable cars with plenty of bhp and subtle mods.

ive owned, 5 maby more 2wd saffs and rwd escos i built,
built/prepped many evos/imprezas and cossies are so much more "bang" performance wise IMO
i will own a dandelion yellow evoV one day as i love em to bits, but they are not a cossie!
mate, go to a dealer, be upfront and honest about what your after doing, and DRIVE some....... you may be a 5/6 man, or a 7/8/9 man, but you wont know till you drive them

try if at all possible to get one with a forged engine, very soft otherwise IMO, I learned the hard way when i was blowing a subaru off the road only for me to put rod out the side of the engine, replaced engine with a TM engine, lasted a year before it was done, wouldnt agree with earlier posts saying theyre boring to drive, had a evo 4 and 6 and the two best cars ive ever had, sore on petrol and parts expensive are only down sides

I think £7k is probably going to be the budget. But I'd rather a really nice 5, then a ropey 6 if you know what I mean.
Evo 7,8,9 to me have lost all the aggressive looks of an Evo which puts me off even if I had the funds. Not sayin I don't like them mind.
Much prefer a 5 or 6.
Red tme is probably my favourite, but I can't find any for sale....
