Default 2 Meg Connection.....But is it??

A test that I just did at www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest returned these results.

901.7 kilobits per second

Communications 901.7 kilobits per second
Storage 110.1 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 9.3 seconds
Subjective rating Good

I dont think its much better than 1 meg. What is the score with BT leading you to believe you have 2 meg, but perhaps not actually supplying it??

Also, does it make a noticeable difference between Modem/Router types??

I think it very much depends on users online, as all the bandwidth I believe is shared between 50 odd users..........dont think theyd ever gaurentee you 2mb/sec, even if thats what they are selling

The speed result was too high or too low
The speed test will not accept results that are negative or too high for the indicated connection type. This test was not counted.

So, whats wrong then? Is it my Modem?? I didnt use the BY Voyager 205 Router that came with my 1MB Connection because I didnt get on with it. I went back to the Voyager 100 ADSL Modem that I had when we were 512KB. Is there a chance that it only lets 1MB through??

christian, that is the mnodem telling your PC what speed its running at. ts not a true measrement of linespeed, its a reported speed.

also you guys never heard of a contention ratio you know that 50:1 thing it goes on about, well that means that yourbandwith is shared between upto 50 differnt people. the 2mb bit is a theoretical maximum speed. f you want a better connection with a guarenteed 2mb, expect to pay about a grand a month
