Default Engine change upgrade & DVLA.

Hi all,

I'm currently interested in buying a MK1 Fiesta, now the current owner has done and engine change on it from a 1.3 OVH to a 1.6 CVH and not informed the DVLA on doing so. Car is currently SORN at the mo but it looks like its been taxed as a 1.3 in its life.

So IF I was to go ahead and buy it what's required to inform the DVLA that's the conversions been done?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers!

Nope, Send the log book off with new capacity and engine number and they'll send you a new logbook stating 1.6 and then you'll have to pay the higher road tax also. probably the reason it was kept as a 1.3

Nope tax stays the same as said, only reason for not doing it is insurance fraud

When i done an engine change DVLA wanted prove of the change.
I sent them a copy of the receipt for the replacement engine, told them i fitted it myself and it had since been through an MOT.

the dvla is the easy part. insurance can be more difficult, get some quotes before you buy.

geting engineers reports plus the increased premium of insuring a modified car can sometimes make it more hassle than its worth

Great... I knew it was all going too easy...

What's the going rate for an engineers report theses days?? And do you think the insurance is going to be silly money then??

well the 1.6 probably came from an xr2, so they will start at the price for insuring one of them then add a bit.

engineers report could cost anything from a case of beer to a £100 depending on who does it, any legitimate garage could probably do one for you

When I changed the DOHC engine in my 4be to a 2.9, I just sent DVLA a receipt from buying the engine. All they seem to be bothered about is that the new claimed engine size is legit and that the engine isn't stolen, not whether it's been fitted properly.

If you don't have a receipt, just write one out on paper, including the engine number, claiming you bought it off someone on ebay a few years ago.
