I had a Rover 800 Vitesse Sport - I loved the Recaro's in it.
For such a big car it went well for 197bhp (200PS). Felt quicker than the 620ti I had after it. I regret selling it tbh as I loved it. For some reason 5th gear was very quick. I couldnt believe how quick it got to some speeds, I actually didnt believe I was doing the speed I was until I checked it with someone else doing the same speed LOL.
Trouble with all of the T16 Rover engines isnt the head gasket, many of them use the Klinger metal gasket so doesnt go. Its the pistons. Made out of Cadbury's finest. Go above 12psi and say good bye to them. You can fit a T28 from a Pulsar GTi-R and run 12psi for around 230bhp, but the intercooler really needs upgrading as well.
Beware, Rover also made a 180bhp version for the 800 as well. Also, the 800 handles better than the 600 for some reason!
If you can find a decent 220 Coupe Turbo then they hit 60 in under 6 seconds - under rated car really.

think you are talking about the 2.3 i had a chipped 2.0. They don't have an IC or turbopress gauge. 150hp std i believe. Mine was tuned by MAPtune. Red inj,new chip and big IC. Was a great cruizer tho. Loved all the luxury you get for that money. Had split aircon, heated seats, leather steeringwheel etc. Loved it to bits.

I kid you not. The power to weight ratio is great....They love to rev, Mine used to scream to nearly 8k!. don't knock it till you tried it
I was a french car hater but the french know how to make a hot hatch!
& the 106/Saxo is like a go cart
& I bet you wouldn't believe that the quickest official time around Castle Combe is a 1600 NA 106 GTI!

Yeah the 2.0 has 150 as standard and a smaller turbo I think, but responds well to tuning, as you found lol.
Saabs do seem to be nicely loaded with goodies

Saxo VTS/106 GTI tho...You'd wont get a minter but with the right mods there a weapon...I had a 106 GTI.....Used to piss over modded Volvo T5's etc, Corsa VXR's. Red top Astra's and things, RS2000's etc etc
I only had a Full System Group N Pugsport exhaust and a decent induction kit but it was the right mods for the engine, I just made sure i kept it well maintained, serviced every 6k with decent oil/filters etc

The man is right though

Heres mine, Toyosport 4/2/1 and supersprint Group N. Apex front and rear dampers with 50mm springs, oillite rear beam so no beam troubles down 40mm, decent decent discs and pads, serviced every 5/6k by myself. Only a budget setup, but i use it every day pretty much! The C4 and p100 just sit at home, i prefer this. Awaits keyboard warrior attack
I didnt even like the french Tubs, bought one cheap a while back, loved it, and now ive had a few decent ones!
I get 45mpg out of it steady and a service costs £24... or £29 with plugs.

Soon i will advertise it, probably for a grand :/ Just buy one! 106GTis go for a little more though. If you dont like it, re advertise it, the chavs snap them up in hours.
Also, nothing lift off oversteers quite as nicely!

Yeah, apart from the vectra v6 and possibly the jag, you're going to struggle to find any of those for a grand or under, if you can actually find any of those!

Nice to see there a few people who has actually experienced how good actually a 106/saxo is.
Best thing about my 106 was it was silver....Everyone used to think it was a 1.4 Quiksilver model! Lol!

Regarding the sleeper look, my mate had HDI badges on his 306 gti-6 with full breathing mods. The look on peoples faces was hysterical. Especially when door to door with an ep3 CTR - as the driver was looking ahead, then at my mate, then at his door badges and then back up to look at my mate in complete shock LOL

in 'saxo land' (the same with 106's but a little harder for those unfamiliar) the phase 1 cars, with the square lights are all ROTTEN. Some are fine, there are exceptions. The phase 2 cars, with lights like mine are ok. Better underseal and zinc plated bolts. Get an 02/03 car and it will be fine usually.

i have had 8 saxos in total (1 x phase 2 diesel, 2 x phase 1 VTS, 3 x phase 2 VTS', 2 x phase 1 VTR's). They are all rotten bastards!! and phase 2 facelifts are not the ones to buy (3 plug ecu, 2 lambdas on the vtrs, chunky seats with side airbags etc). a late 1999 - early 2000 phase 2 vts is the one to buy!!
