Hi All

After some info on the best products to use to paint my engine and running gear?

Want to paint everything, bare engine, manifolds, pulleys, diff, Gearbox, Prop etc.

Any info would be appreciated.

Powder coat your trailing arms, beam, x member etc.

I painted my block, pulleys and rocker with rattle cans, but put a high with a temp lacquer over the top. However the engine hasnt run yet but my mate who is a painter done the same (in white) and his still looks awesome some fews years later.

Interested in the comments on the diff as i still need to do mine and the gold bit on the drive shafts.

Good luck fella, where is Soton you from? You a scummer like me?

Find yourself a proper powder coaters then mate ... Because if its prepped right and powder coated right it's bang on... Mines over a year old and 1400 miles of hard use and no chopping or flaking ... My best mate owns a powder coaters .

I used etch primer on everything that was rattle canned ..

If you struggle PM and ill text ya the stuff that was used ... But prepping it right plays a big part mate

etch primer is for bare alloy or metal ,if you not stripping them rite back just use a normal primer ,any bits that you do stip back etch

bit like this its only etched on bare steel (grey parts)

i just spent loads of time cleaning everything and the underside right back then primed it then used gloss paint and i have done around 2500 with no loss of colour or any paint chipping off .
do wish i just gave it to a sandblaster to get done would be alot less time/hassle

I`d like to paint the block and cam cover in ford imperial blue. I know the cam cover will be ok just primed then painted but what about the block as i`d like to just paint as opposed to bare metaling it?

Should be easy to wire wheel if standard stuff
Don't take a lot to clean it up mate
If it has been done before just primer the colour

I painted all my rear end with hammerite. But that was because I could touch it up whenever it chipped off or got scratched. Now I would use 2k if I were to do it again
