Default fuel filters on citroen c4 hdi

hello all ive just done a service on a c4 1.6 hdi and changed the fuel filter, my friend told me to try and fill it up with diesel first and i put in the same amount as what come out, it started first time then stopped, ive been turning it over for a while and nothing, i have been told they can take along time to refill, is it just a question of turning the key

thanks
Andy

Its air locked and needs to be bled properly, best way to do it is to make sure the filter is fill right to the top, use a hand primer to draw the fuel through to the pump and get rid of all the air that way.

I would not turn it over for to long as the high pressure pump will be turning with no fuel. No fuel= no lubrication.

as its in a citroen, they thoughtfully blessed the fuel system with a priming pump
it should be along the front of the air filter housing on the top of the engine, just pump it till you cant hear the air bubbles sqwelching in the pipe work
