Transit Tipper is feeling poorly Any diff experts Handy?
Evening all, in my business we have a small fleet of Ford Vehicles and all have been very reliable and have not given any big trouble, we Have a Ford Escort Van, Transit 2006 Crew Cab Tipper and recently purchased 2012 transit Sport. The Transit tipper has been giving trouble of late so decided during Christmas I would book it in a local garage for inspection of the following faults,
1) wine/whirring notice from rear from as little as 5mph, I'm any gear at any time, let me stress not a normal whining diff baring noise or wheel baring failure noise,
2) Poor cold start performance draining batteries
3) Occasional Limp Home when carrying a small load
4) general poor performance
Transit spec is 2006 2.4 TDCI RWD TWIN AXLE 108,000 miles full service history we have maintained regardless of cost.
Have been told that we need a new valve or something on the fuel pump side of the engine circa 400 pounds to repair,
Possible new or reconditioned injectors plus recoding
2 new batteries, (even though we fitted 2 genuine ford batteries under 1 year a go)
Complete new rear diff
Been estimated 4000 plus vat. Ouch. If there are any TDCI / Transit experts about that can help with getting good recon parts or advice I would appreciate it. Truck is worth imao 7500 tops so is it worth doing.?!?
Plus already this summer it had a new clutch flywheel and starter and we retained the correct flywheel so cost over a grand for this alone. What do I do? Burn it! Or is that repair estimate sound usual to everyone.
Truck to look at is in great condition, new shape clean nice truck and sign written, it's the hub of my business, me and dad bought the sport due to the offers ford was doing, couldn't resist.
Thanks guys in advance
Jason

Not very often you have to change 4 injectors.
Without seeing the van it's hard to say but for the lack of power I would be starting with changing the fuel filter and see if there is a PCM re-calibration available, if there is I would do that then do a fuel pump learn, injector correction factors, injector learn, and reset the fuel pressure relief valve.
Got to be cheaper than 4 injectors

Yea I agree, we'll funny you should suggest that, the fuel filter was changed last service in June, the garage started with this also, said it was full of black dirty crap. And we have been warned about water ingress into our local morrisons where we fill it up. We were told to replace the pressure relief valve next, will suggest to him to re code and make it re learn everything again. Thanks for the advice

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
dont use supermarket diesel, it doesn't agree with modern engines
it even looks cloudy compared to proper fuel
not saying that this is the prob, but it wont help over a long period of time

Supermarket diesel is a known problem, but we live on the Isle of Wight where we don't have much option. Only a couple of texaco here and there at very high prices,,super unleaded today at my local texaco is 160 per litre. Plus I have a business to run but will be using quality fuel if its damaged my truck

will be the pressure release valve they are on about common on these they also need coding by fords, deffo a injector leak of test etc if they gone they over fuel and fuck your engine, as for the diff i just rebuilt mine cost me 90 quid but pros can come to your door and do it for Ł600
prv is 90 quid, injectors stupidly it makes no sence to recon them just buy new ones at Ł150 each and they will need to be recoded also

I have found that the occasional use of Red Line 85+ helps me especially if I get some bad diesel in the winter! worked with my old citroen ZX and my newer BMW 330d!
check the seals round the injectors etc if its one of these they can be replaced! Also else where on the high pressure side of the pump.

Ok where do you find new injectors for 150 each? And what's the name of the company that can re con a back axel for 600 quid.

My mate has his 07 done last month diesel place charged him 150 each, as for the axle theres plenty of mobile axle repairers about. I bet you could have 4 new I injectors fitted a new prv and all coding do ne for a grand at a good diesel specialist.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
My advice? Get it to a ford commercial dealer.
It "could" be the valve on the back of the pump, but it "could" also be the valve on the rail, or the injectors or the pump, or the filter. You could spend 4k on it only to find it needs a pump aswell.
