is my car ok to drive?
i toke my escort gti to ford the other day for a service and they said that my front left spring was broken (standard jobbies), now thats fair enough but how can it be broken and me not notice? cos i been driving it everywhere and it feels fine not n and also its not lower at the front either to suggest its buggered either?
i havent had chance to look myself but it they said it was "broken" then i guess it would be pretty obvious just by looking at the spring?

my old motor had 2 snapped rear springs... i didnt really notice either!
if you take it very easy you should be ok to drive it to a local garage. i dont think its legal tho, especially considering you actually know about it. a set of springs (all 4) is about 60quid from memory. try here www.raldes.co.uk www.provenproducts.co.uk may aswell go for -25mm - -35mm jobbies whilst youre there, but you can still get std height ones if youd rather.

A broken spring does not nessarily mean that is broken in half.. You probably wouldn't notice it.. 9 times out of ten a two inch section at the top of the spring will have broken away with excessive corrosion. Easy fix.. Get a suspension kit fitted..

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Front left spring broke on the wife's Escort 1.8. Could only really notice it on full lock, but it didn't take long to swap it out.
The bushes in the front arms are a BIG problem. She got new Ford bushes fitted at the first MOT (only 16k miles). Two years and 12k later they were gone again so I fitted Powerflex bushes.
The MOT is almost due again and I think they have gone again - if so, it is back to cheap standard bushes for me - they aren't on her car for performance so I don't see any point in paying loads extra for the poly bushes if they don't last any longer!
