Clio 172s are great! the 182 has a different manifold but is more or less the same car. slightly heavier so slightly more power, same performace really.
They benefit a lot from gas flowing, the ports dont match on them very well at all! they are however a little more expensive so modify and repair in comparison to a saxo.

Saxo VTR/VTS would be a good bet as well! you can pick them up for pennies and there are so many being broken for spares etc you cant give parts away.
i will add also, with cams, 4/2/1 a K&N panel and a decent map a VTS will really shift! stripped out they weigh nothing!
both really good cars!

other ideas, fiesta zetec S with a 1.7?
a puma?
tbf, if its just going to be a track car for laughs, the cheaper the better. the outright performance doesnt matter that much as you will improve your times throughout the day until your driving to the cars/your maximum potential. And thats the fun!

Just won a 53 plate 172 on ebay, no cruise, but it can be retrofitted apparently, but at the price i paid i dont think i'll bother.

Ph2 block, Forged engine with higher comp pistons, steel rods, Ported Ph1 head, superdooper valves, cams, ITB's... spec'd and built and mapped by Chip and Tank Mike.

Puts power down through a plated Gripper LSD. AST suspension and set up by Mark Fish Motorsport.

All tucked away looking shiny and lovely

Lovely build but what a waste of money when you could have bolted a charger on for 4k and it would rip all the above work to pieces in the blip of a throttle and leave you with bags more power potential.

TB's are a fools game on the Clio's imo

Here's some pics of my mates sunflower ph1, in my opinion it's probably the best clio in the UK.

Fully forged engine, with nice supercharger, pretty sure it's now running around the 330-350hp. It won the fwd 0-60 at rs croft last year

Yeah their pretty rare. IIRC sure there were only something like 34 made in Sunflower?

Not a lot of people know but just 1300 odd ph1s total were officially sold via Renault dealers.

I love that sunflower yellow one

Still think for a track car boddies are a better choice than a blower , just due to the extra problems/costs trying to maintain charge temps.
