Default BMW electric steering wheel lock fault

got my self an Electric steering wheel lock fault on my 325i 2006 E92, whats the problem and is it going to cost alot? From what i have read so far online BMW are going to try and charge me for a new steering column! but i think all i need is a software update and that will sort it out.....any more info would be great guys.

Its just a software update to the parameters of the steering lock. A good indie garage should be able to do it for you.
basically the steering lock wears slightly and goes outside of the two measured parameters for the steering lock, hence lots of scary looking warning lights/messages on the dash!
