Default BMW 330ci e46 poor handbrake

just got this car this week, done front brakes as they were shot, but handbrake is beyond poor. is it a case of cleaning up the mechanism or would new discs and pads be recommended?
i've not had a rear wheel off yet, just looking for tips before i start looking at it.
cheers
sean

they have drums inside the rear discs mate for the handbrake. Whip the discs off and have a look what's going on

As above its little handbrake shoes that the disc acts as a drum they usually corrode , will require rear brakes most likley

It'll be the adjuster, always is. Handbrake shoes last a lifetime unless you like a handbraker every now an again to impress the ladies

Easy peasy job like the mercs, discs off then you get to the adjuster although if your very lucky you can get at it through the wheel bolt.
Easy to adjust and extremely unlikely to need new shoes.
Don't forget to slacken the handbrake cables up by the actual handbrake itself so you get a true adjustment of them.
You can then make minor adjustments via the cables afterwards.

Youtube or google it. Plenty of DIYs out there.

you dont have to remove the discs, i did mine about 6 months ago, little brass adjuster wheel can be got at through the holes in the discs. If i remember correctly the adjuster wheel is towards the back at approx 8 o'clock
