You misunderstand what the engine is, it's not a yeehaw cowboy rebuild with +0.25s here there and everywhere.

You also clearly don't realise the money/time/labour that goes into a proper competition motor.

If there is more than £5k profit in that engine I'd be surprised, sounds a lot but its less than a 10% margin. Ford make about 50% on replacement engines, sometimes more.

I mean no offence btw. 61k for a rebuilt YB for a saph yeah it's cuckoo but 61k for that, off the shelf, ready to go, ain't too bad

For an engine at that cash.....i would be expecting a W16 from a Veyron ffs!!

That particular engine (no matter how all singing or all dancing it is), is nearly 2 and a half times the price, of what a sierra sapphire cosworth was when they where brand new!!

Try looking at a parts list for one of the Olsberg MSE Duratec turbo rallycross engines!

Just because you wouldn't pay this price for an engine doesn't mean it's not worth price the seller is asking.

And somehow I don't think you would get a veyron engine for 60k either

I saw the words Julian Godfrey and just thought aaahhhhh, that explains A LOT.
AFAIK he's the guy to go to if you want a competition engine to win with, maybe only 520bhp, but look at the torque !!

At the end of the day these guys and girls who compete in rally cross do so to win and if that means they go to mr Godfrey and have one of his builds then that's what they have to do

And as said I bet most of that bill is for parts alone and machine work.

Plus to add a Godfrey engine will do multiple races with out issue so that's where the money also goes

Bet a cheaper engine competing in the same races will need a few rebuilds so could end up costing more

Lol at uneducated folk laughing at the price. There's a lot of work, parts and a lifetime of R&d in that engine. He sells 20-30 a year so despite what the op thinks it IS worth that price because they do sell.

These engines are not for the likes of us, this is a full blooded super car rally cross engine. This money is small fry for the top rally cross teams. I remember Martin Schanche getting through 3 engines on one particular weekend event, they discovered it was a management problem in the end causing the engine to run lean - dear hobby!

Mate, you wouldn't want this engine in anything you're likely to use on the road. I had to drive Julian Godfrey's double championship winning Fiesta with this engine in it a number of times when I worked at Spec-R last year, and is an absolute pig - won't move without stalling below around 6000 rpm

you can buy a w12 engined phaeton for £6k so buy 2 and then weld them together to get an even better engine than the veyron and much cheaper to boot

or you could put one in the front and one in the back and it owuld be twice as good as anything else

well as the engine in question is a proper race engine lol maybe you could ask Julian to teach you! And I dare say with all the money it must cost as a hole to enter rally cross at that level for a year that 60 grand for an engine that will last and give you a good chance of winning is probably peanuts!
