Cone filter strange sounds
Can anyone comment as to why i'm getting a strange sound under full boost coming from the cone filter as if it's being sucked inside the turbo
The filter is brand new and has developed ripples
Under hard boost i was getting a thudding noise coming from it
The filter is the Airtec GT series filter

Chris that filter damage is not from suction... And by the look of that hose that's your problem mate...I've got a 4-5ply thick black hose in mine and its fine with the same filter as you...

How many layers has the hose got?
You need to take it off and have a look, if it's not a good quality hose (even if it's new) it will collapse under acceleration as the suction force will draw it together, which also may put extra stress on the filter.
You have to be careful when buying hoses for these kind of turbos, i did a bit of digging when i fiitted a T4 and there are loads of dodgy thin hoses that will collapse.

Mine was turned down from 38-36 because of surge.. But the hose I have even tho it's a smaller bore so at 4-5ply will be stronger never had any issue's... It really sounds like the hose to me IMO.

My hose looks the same as yours! If I could be arsed to go out side I'd check what make it is but I know it's an odd make! I've never had mine collapse and I run 2.6 bar all the way up

my 2.1 done this sucked the hose shut and cut the throttle had to wait till it got its breath back before i could drive it again, happened on the way up from london when i got it, fast lane doing 90 on boost and bang no power not good think it cleared once i was back down to 40ish

It has to be the filter surely causing a restriction as the air demand increases, there is a vacuum ( low pressure ) created sucking the hose flat. Sure the hose looks soft but if it had an open end or a free flowing filter then it wouldn't really see that much negative pressure.

I presume not as i would have been told, It's only happened to me twice both times really early in the morning
Peak 36psi on GT3076
I'm going to speak to the manufacturer of the filter and see what they say, i've seen really back K&N filters in the past that look like they've been sucked inside out nearly - i'm not sure if it's a hose or filter issue yet - i will get the car out today and see if it still happens as the last time i was out in it i didn't get an odd sounds but then i can't see whats going on under the bonnet.
Another thing i can do is mount my small camera under the bonnet to view what is happening on high boost

Still maintain it's a poor quality/insufficient hose and a bad filter, I don't rate K&N's if I'm honest but I know plenty of people use them without any issues.
It's a huge turbo drawing lots of air, this is why it is collapsing, nothing to do with boost pressure, it's all on the suction side.
The best thing you can do it buy a good filter and a new reinforced hose.

Banging sound, restriction almost as if it was hesitant,, boost cut - it was actually the first time i give the car boost but & was near on 0° ambient so would have that made a difference? it's not done it since even at full boost in 4th holding around 30psi - i'll see if my camera shows up under the bonnet but it will give sound if not able to view.
