Default Porsche 924

what are peoples views?
i bought a 1984 2.0 one at the start of October to use while the calibra is off the road
there seems to be a lot of negative views about them first thing most people say is not a real porsche or that has a van engine in it
now i use it every day for my work commute which is roughly a 70 mile round trip and most of that is on the motorway have done nearly 800 miles in it now and it hasn't missed a beat.

i paid £800 and it has done 96k miles with full porsche stamped service history upto 95k miles not a spot of rust on it at all everything works leccy windows sunroof and heated mirrors its comfortable the driving position is great and handles well

so i cant understand where the negativity comes from, i'd much rather be driving round in a 924 than the usual stuff that goes for £800

Good cars. Handle beautifully and great road manners. Really well balanced.

Engine is pretty underwhelming, but rugged and dependable.

924s with the 2.5 is a great car. Lighter than a 944, but with the same engine. Not as cool looking though.

Even if it's not the best or most desirable car they've ever made, it's still a real Porsche...

Who cares what other people's opinions are! You've more than justified it to yourself by the sound of things. It's a reliable £800 car, what more can you ask.

Never driven one. I had a 944 Turbo years back and it was a good little car. Always got the feeling people thought I had a poor mans Porsche, where as in reality I had a fast, fun, reliable car that might as well have been a golf for all au cared.

Bang a 20v turbo in it. Or a 2.0 16v abf lump. That will wake it up

The 944 was intended to replace the 911 and was even dearer than the 911 at one point iirc! Still, most people thought of them as poor man's Porsches...

968 cracking Porsche as well but you get mistaken for 944 lol

The 944 was never intended to replace the 911. That was the 928.

The 944 turbo was dearer than a 911, but it was a much better car in reality.

968 was an evolution of the 944. The 968 Clubsport was a great drivers car.

Wasn't it the 928 that looked similiar to the 968?

They are much Porsches underdog, I work at a specialist and have worked on a few, they are simple and fun cars. Tend to not need much in the way of repairs just general maintenance servicing etc

968 is an updated 944. It's a 944 underneath.

The 968 front end lost the 944 flat pop-up headlights and got a more rounded back end, kind of like a 928.

The 968 was very similar to the 928 but with the 28 it is a pure electrical nightmare lol.
944 turbos are insane and madly tunedable. We do a mass amount of tuning with these havin made quite easily 417 bhp with 430ish ft pound from the standard engine . And now a custom 3.2l with roughly 430 with in excess of 600ft pound at around 18psi (from memory)

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up

I've heard that alot

Re the 924. I think they're really underrated. For around £1K you get a Porsche. A Porsche FFS! Put it this way, a £1K Porsche or a £6K Kia? It's worth it just for the badge IMO.

Put it this way, I Dred when they get booked in (endless pain)

They are quality cars for the money you pay, not expensive to maintain either
