Rs turbo stuck in 5th Gear WHY.??? :(
As above...
Basically I was driving up the road today doin no more than 40mph put the car in 5th then went to take it out and it was stuck solid in that gear. So anyways got a good matetoo tow me too the garage with my foot on the clutch got the car on the ramp and after trying on the selector to get it out cudnt but we noticed we could actually move the car by pushing without pressing the clutch pedal but if I started it then the clutch pedal had to be down or it would try and move forward with being in gear anybody know why it has stuck in 5th???

Had this happen to me on the way to national day in about '96. Basically the box was low on oil, I was trying to follow a 3dr at warp speed, went to change down when we got to the circuit and it wouldn't move. Once it cooled down it would come out of gear.
Drove home slowly as assumed the box was fubared anyway. Stripped it down, 5 gear selector fork showed signs of overheating and was scrap. Rebuilt the box with new bearings and was perfect after.

The box in an RS Turbo is fords bullshit 5 speed job which is a 4 speed with a 5th bolted onto the box.
The selector in 5th is weak and runs out of oil.
It will either jump out of fifth or stick in fifth.
Time for a repair........ or new box.
