Default Crazy quote for a Scooby insurance

As Scoob's are going so cheap these days I thought I would buy one for some fun. I called my insurance company up today and they said they don't cover them.....So went on 'Cheap car insurance' on Google that checks over 100 insurance company's. The cheapest that came back for a 1998 Scoob Wagon was £1,070

I am nearly 40, full no claims, driving since I was 17, no points, I have a secure garage etc etc.....Why are they stupidly expensive to insure or have I tried the wrong way about getting lower insurance on one of these?

wouldnt surprise me if the classic scoobys are now a lot more expensive to insure as the cheap ones are proper CHAV material these days so i suspect they now have a high claims rate bumping the premiums.

That makes total sense as the older ones are mostly chav'd up with stupid body kits etc. I wonder what fast cars are going cheap but without the silly insurance costs?

Was it UK spec or an Import? Trade policies usually refuse imports unless you ask for it to be added, maybe that had something to do with it try a reg on a UK spec one.

Does seem steep. When I sold my classic two years ago I think I was paying about 600ish and I was 29. Started thinking about getting another this time a blob eye STI and the cheapest quote was just under 800 notes. That was done on check the market with protected no claims

Comparison sites aren't always the best, they're good because they can give you a rough idea, but I've always found getting a quote direct from some company is always better (like Adrian Flux- I got a great price this year!)

Yesterday Direct Line quoted me £2,000 on a 1.25 Fiesta, to say I was gobsmacked was an understatement!

Oddly, I was recently quoted £500 quid on an RS6 and £200 on my 3DR. Seems to make little sense, although I can imagine it is related to the fact the more Fiestas are involved in accidents than either RS6s or 3DRs!?!

As above, forget price comparison websites!

Call Sky insurance if it's an import. Or, if it's a UK car try Aviva.

I've got an STI and it costs me about £680 FC. My mrs has a uk turbo and that's about £400. Strangely enough Sky (who insure my Sti) wanted more for the uk car. Aviva (Norwich union) were about the cheapest for the uk car.

Keith Nichaels are supposed to be good, and cheap but I gave up trying to deal with them as they have a Subaru 'specialist' who is never available.

Someone mentioned Sky Insurance,

i Agree!

i just insured my very rare 1992 Audi 80 Quattro saloon with "slight mods" for £428

32, 4 years "Traders" NCB, no bumps or convictions low risk area (older Audis are stupid to insure, fcuk knows why lol!)

very helpfull and 100% above board and you ask them to ring you on a specific date, they do so, payments are very flexible also, deposit then i paid in full next month with no extra charge, monthly installments also not an issue

My impreza is 550 quid for a 96 import sti with all mods declared but my first insurance was 1300 quid as I needed to own the car a year for a bigger discount

I'm with Keith micheals but yes Gary can be a nightmare to get hold of

Do they?
Never experienced that in 10 years of having a trade policy but times are changing.

Insurance is a joke. Im nearly 30 and at 23 i insured an Astra SRi Turbo for £540 a year fully comp with 2 years no claims. In the past year ive gone from a Leon Cupra R which was £80 a month, then changed to a 206 GTi which was £75, then a ST170 which is £78 a month. Renewal time came and they wanted what worked out to be £150 a month give or take a few pence, ditched the old company and joined another and paying £615 for the year fully comp on the ST170. I think the days of ' being over 25 ' and having a load of no claims and driving experience doesn't really go in anyones favour anymore.. okay it helps a little but not much. Or so it seems.

IM 36 now
full no claims all mod declared fully comp
1989 cossy is £300 ish Adrian Flux
2010 focus rs is £460ish with Ford insure
1995 discovery with £5k of extras was £260 Adrian Flux

Misses 2006 mr2 is £400ish
misses 2011 bmw 320d £550ish

Cossy is the only one thats garaged, but they all have limited mileage, (brings the cost right down)

tbh I'm quite happy with the prices i get but am fucking old now

Also don't forget area helps a lot. Before i moved recently where i was living must have been a bad area on the insurance databases, because whatever i insured it was always a 4 figure sum or more but if i insured it at my parents address it was always 500 - 600 cheaper !
