Diff play

Anyone know how you measure diff play, also how much play should there be. I have about an 1" & 1/8 play in mine. If this is too much do you know anywhere in the Hants/Berks area to get it looked at.

There are various ways.
Take back cover off dti on the crownwheel tooth lock up the pinion and rock the crownwheel back and forwards.
You can also lock up the driveshaft flanges then mark 1 position of the pinion then rotate the pinion then re-mark and measure the difference between the lines
You should check the cv joints because 1" sounds massive IMO
