Default Trading standards

Do any of you know ins and outs of trading standard because, was out with my gf on friday and bought a set of 4 glasses for my neices to use when they come to visit, lovely glasses with pictures of cats on it, today i gave my 5 year old neice a glass of juice and just as she went to take a drink the bottom fell straight off the glass.
I then got the recepit out and it turns out the dizzy person that served us never charged us for them but the person that served us commented on how nice the glasses were and we have the receipt for the rest of the goods he bought in the shop so we have her I.D number.

Ive took pictures of the glass and i'm going down to the shop tomorrow to demand to speak to the manager, whats my next step ?
Should i take a refund ? or should i take it further ?

Well if they wanna be cunts and the bird denys it you got no proof u bought it and could actually get accused of stealing it lol.

Doubt that'll happen thou, have a word with the manager. If they give a refund or replace then theres not much u can do, they didnt make the glass they just sell them so would be a manufacturers problem not the stores themselves, plus i take it she wasnt actually hurt?! Pretty sure they'll do the above thou as long as u dont go steaming in causing shit!!

Used to run a shop and the amount of ppl that steam in talking to u like ur a peice of shit when u havnt done anything is unreal!!!!!!

Should i take a refund

refund? how? you never paid for them.

IMHO its a 'shit happens' situation, you can't prove you bought them from there so why create.

If you really like the glasses just go get some more and pay for them. It's probably just a freak flaw in the glass from mfr not the retailer.

Well its still worth telling them TBH, if they have had some already like that then they should really recall them or be aware at least as it could be a batch problem. But if no one reports it they'll never know!!!

As said tis prob just a 1 off but it could be a box of them fell off the lorry and damaged them etc etc

So your saying its a "shit happens situation"

Do you have children or nieces or nephews, this could have seriosly hurt the child but thank god it didnt, you cant pass this off as a shit happens situation.

Not when there is a child involved.

I don't let my 5 or 9 year old daughters use a glass...... plastic "glasses" only due to the fact that if they drop them (as they do ) they don't get broken...

I've had that happen to a glass b4 whilst washing up.... weird

Either way if they refund or replace, that's all u get mate!!!!!!!!!!! Unless the managers a nice person and offers u some vouchers or something but thats their discression.

So many variables TS wouldnt look into it unless there were loads reported it happening too, and then it would just be a store recall.
EG it COULD have been damaged on the way home. Not sayin it was just sayin

As was posted above, its not the fault of the retailer, they didnt make them,
but i do agree with going back there, just to tell them about the problem, so
if need be they can recall the product, before someone does get hurt.

They were nice untill the arse fell out one of them when a child was using it, then its not so nice.

Would you do nothing about it if it was one of your family.

I honestly would still do nothing, this kind of thing happens from time to time. I appreciate that an injury could have happened but its part of life, apart from the obvious mental damage i didnt suffer from the accidents that happened to me as a child.

have they all done it or just the one?

Dont take this the wrong way, but what do you expect them to tell you,
apart from that they are sorry, who are you looking to blame ?

So would you still be saying this if the glass cracked in the childs hand, it could easily have scarred the child for life.

Sorry but you currently dont have a leg to stand on, you have no proof of purchase, you could indeed buy another set and claim this accident happened to then. However to me this comes do to a moral question.

You had a lucky escape as you have said, maybe best to be thankful. It could also be argued as you seem concerned about the risk to children of why you gave them a glass in the first place and not a plastic cup.

The only thing you could claim for is something like the liquid in the glass stained your carpet, and a replacement for the liquid spilt. nobody was hurt, no injuries where logged nothing to claim for. It would only be a claim for a cleaning bill.

Personally if it was me i would just make them aware what happened incase somebody does actually get hurt, as said it could be a faulty batch.

Jeeez Its a faulty glass -not a train crash!

Mountains and molehills springs to mind.

Sorry if that offends - but if you are worried about the childs safety - dont give them glass objects. They could just as easily have dropped it - would that have been the shops fault too?

You didnt even pay for them. Sorry again - but I dont see what your problem is.

What do you expect the shop manager (yes - I am one) to do about it?
