Unhappy escort mk4 a friend owns? advice!

we know some friends who have had a 1989 escort mk4 from new (horsham fords in sussex its from), 3 door and in sky blue, been sorn'd for nearly 10 years in the garage. its been garaged most of its life and i had a brief look over it today, its bloody clean shell, had no welding etc....! few little scabs, sills are perfect and worst rust is about 2 or 3 inches on the offside rear arch! interior is very dirty but will clean up well i quickly nipped by today and asked them if i could have a look as they are going to scrap it they said

what do i do buy it off them and save it from scrapping as its way too good to scrap for the £200 odd they would get scrap?? thinking about it cleaning it up and selling it on, will be perfect for a sleeper or turbo conversion? would hate to see it scrapped! what ya reakon??

Wouldn't scrap for £200 IMO. Gotta be worth £5-800 with a fresh MOT, especially if it has no sunroof

IVE SAVED 3 IN THE PAST, IM SURE MOST OF THE GUYS ON HERE HAVE SAVED 1 OR 2 BEFORE, if its mint with a bit of arch rust and it was me id buy it asap, clean it up repaire the rust and sell it as standard, it will fetch more money to somebody and would be a nice thing to see at a show being standard !!

its got a sunroof fitted, its a push up sunroof and not the slide one most mk4's have, no mot or tax. back brake shoes were taken off when they stored it to stop them from seizing!

seriously not worth scrapping imo!

Deffo wont get 200 scrap. Its between80 & 130 a ton her and changes daily. Get it bought and slip a 2.0 zetec in it for a daily reliable old escort. Thats what i'd do

Yeah I'd buy it.. even if you spend a weekend or two getting it mechanically tip top again, it'll sell for way more than 150-200 with an MOT on it.

I don't think Rossatron will mind a wee trek if it's as good a base as you say.

Is it a 1.6?

It sounds like quite a straight shell apart from the rust - but that's usual. I'd have it.

If it is as you say it will pay for its self - If it has been stored it will be very low mileage, This will add to value, even if you get it done by other people:

Valet inside and out £40
MOT £40
Break pads all round £40
break fluid £10
Oil (good stuff) £20
oil filter £5
fix rust on arch £60

so we are at about £215 plus cost of car to get it in order cat at scrap is £150 so you need to sell for £365 and if the shell is that clean you will probably get double that!
Go on save the car or PM me and I'll do it!!!!!!

can we see some pictures of your find, i agree with the other guys saying if you clean it up it will be worth a bit more than whats first thought, it could turn out to be a very very nice motor, and it being not modified or pissed around with would be a great thing to save and put on the road again. GO FOR IT
