Another failed gated sump causing engine meltdown
Its not the case the RR tuner has over done it, its simply the case the RR tuner has tuned the car for a stationary condition albiet the car is simulating some engine load. If the car is making more power and is'nt detting then it is fact better optimised for the RR condition. Unfortunetly its that very last sentance where the problem lies. The engine mapping has been optimised for a set or condtions and requirments which dont accurately represent real world conditions.
Danny,
May I suggest that when we mapped that car it actually made 385 bhp on nobles RR. That was nearly 10 years ago!!!! Perhaps after many years and miles since I mapped it conditions have changed, both in terms of engine wear and things like boost loss, weak actuator etc. If you think your mapping is better than mine you are sadly very deluded!

I bought a escort cosworth that you built and mapped and we optimised it on the rr getting from 357 and 370 lb ft up to 390 and 405 we did this on the rr and that was nearly 2 years ago ..
it gets ragged all the time and in fact has now done 9k miles since we did this so although you believe your own map cant be improved i can tell you you are wrong!!FACT
Also why does every one ignore the fact that even though there was 14 degrees ignition at 4.5 k there was only .65 bar of boost??
cheers danny

p.s. my parents have gone on holiday and i said i would do some planting for them while they were away, can i borrow your spade because it seems like a fucking good one

Karl a man with two arms two legs and a head who knows mapping can be as good as the next man..
The engine was not 10 years old and the reciepts in the folder for map etc wernt either..
Your mapping was great but we improved it full stop..and contrary to what you say it hasnt blown up..
A dd rr can hold and replicate road load and more although air intake even on the best i except isnt the same..
The car made great boost and held it also it was running awesome in every way but the map was richer up top and it took more spark and like iv said that was 2 years ago..
cheers danny
I don't think judging someone's mapping ability on one single figure (peak power) is very clever. I feel peak power is the last thing we worry about when calibrating an engines map. And I personally feel it shows a lack of professionalism .
so you took a car that was built and live mapped by a man that I have a huge respect for stuck it on some rolling road you borrow and decided to advance the ignition and lean the fuel off
sounds familiar this
when you admit yourself that det is caused by to little fuel and or to much advance
all I can say is thank god you closed down

exactley, i reckon i with my limited but fair knowledge of how a car is mapped could make one see 500bhp ok it may see that for .2 milliseconds before it shat itself but i reckon i could get there lol
If you can get more torque and power by optimizing a map then of course its better!!!
The boost wasnt increased just the ignition table and fuel table optimized, how can that be bad for an engine??
cheers danny

"better" for that moment in time I agree with, but you don't know the adverse effects of your tweaks
My escort was done 9k ago 2 years ago and get the arse ragged off it!!
My race car was done time and time again on the rollers with changes nearly 5 years ago and i just re sold the bottom end with a freshen up and its doing 600 hp again with no troubles..
There is loads of cars that we have mapped on the rr ,guess what this one (steves )is the only one to have gone wrong and i still dont think its lukes/eps fault..
cheers danny
Danny, I don't know you so Im certainly not going to argue on the internet. What I'll say is mapping is not something that anyone can be good at. It is actually very important to fully understand every aspect of engine design and the complicated nature of the engine dynamics. (i.e. the real interaction of all conditions)
There is no way you can understand the weber system like I do. I have spent years studying the system and know every map within the ecu. You simply cannot and wont have access to those maps. IEMS for example only covers some very basic maps, and certainly you wont understand how the ecu compensates igntion and fuel with air temperature.
I am leaving this topic now simply because I dont wish to get drawn in any further. I have given my opinion and been very fair. Hopefully Ill get to meet you danny and have a chat. I'm sure outside the internet we'll probably get along very well as we are both petrol heads.

danny i do sincerley respect what you are doing sticking up for a mate like you are, i truly wish i could say i had friends that would do the same for me in fact i would be honoured and for that reason you have my respect
but come on its game over. you said you would pay for the pistons if the map could be proved at fault and by the findings of well respected tuners on here the map has had that many holes picked in it that it must now resemble swiss cheese. do your self a favour, pay up and move on

Karl you have been fair and i do respect your opinion and i dont doubt for a second you understand certain things better than me but i think your find that in some circumstances things can be improved and i have done that to many cars that are still fine and running fine still now..
I would love to meet and chat to you too and look forward to it..
cheers danny
Do you actually know what afr peak power is made? And would you run a car there?
Or are you contradicting yourself yet again?
