Default Sorn and taxed???

Hi I've just bought myself a focus rs and will be swapping the insurance over from the cossie to the focus tomorrow before I go pick it up. The cossie will be going in storage as I love it and don't want to sell it lol I was then going to insurance for it for 1 week in August so I can drive it to fordfair and Kelly take the focus. The cossie will then be put back in storage and probably resurface next summer.

Now the problem! Can I sorn the cossie AND leave it taxed (runs out end of August). I know that by law a car must be taxed and insured or sorn.

Anyone know?
Cheers Billy

Don't SORN it till after August then, no sense putting it on SORN because you'll just loose a month's tax you've already paid for. Looks like it'll work out well if it runs out at the end of August, just after Ford Fair

Sorry but I think you missed the point, a car by law must be insured or sorn. The car will not be insured so it has (by law) to be sorn. But can I keep the tax while it is sorn?

If the car isn't insured then you have to SORN the car, which will effectively mean any tax that is remaining becomes void, or can be refunded via the DVLA. If you want to keep the tax running then you'll have to keep the car insured.

I know its anal! but apparently this stops people driving without insurance or something?
It seems to me a stupid piece of legislation that no one voted for but we do ?

oh and if the tax has got less than a month to run the dvla usually wont refund it,unless thats changed with this new rule, because they cant tell you to sorn it then not give you the money back regardless of how much tax is left surely?

you running the cossie on normal insurance or classic as a frs wont qualify for classic anyway and my not be transferable, so you can use any NCB on a seperate normal poilcy for the frs as it wont effect any premium if thats makes sense

Standard insurance steve.

I going to swap the insurance onto the focus and just leave it. Then 2weeks from next Monday I can insure the saff on my focus policy as a extra car. Greenlight told me earlier that they will insure the car for 2weeks for £75 as an extra car on my current policy. Fingers crossed I don't get a letter for a couple of weeks

I phoned dvla today to find out what I could do and they told me that I dont have to send my tax back if I was to sorn it. They would then record the vehicle as sorn and I would not need to insure it. Then when I insure it for fordfair week call them and tell them I have insured it and they will reinstate my tax disc and I can drive it once the insurance runs out I then simply have to sorn it again.

Looks like both cars will get to fordfair! Happy days
