Talking RS2000 Van Conversion? Experts Here?

Hello,

So my brothers transit has giving up with the pump and he now wants a work horse.

He was thinking of buying his mates RS2000 for £600 and a escort van to do a engine conversion to!

How hard would would this be to do? Since there the same is everything the same for a straight swap over without hard to make brackets?

This dont have to be for any shows just for work really.

Would he need a custom exhaust or anything like that? Maybe someone has a thread on one would abit of detail?

How long should something like this take?

Many Thanks Eigdoog!

easiest way is to disconnect everything in the engine bay (wiring, fuel lines, water hoses ,vac hoses etc) remove ancillaries (rad, airbox, tanks etc) jack up the car and unbolt the strut tops and rad carrier. support the engine by crane and unbolt the top drivers side engine mount and front passenger gearbox mount. then unbolt the 4 17mm iirc bolts from the subframe and then it should lower down. do the reversal to put in the van.
just remember to label all the connections so you know where they go and take as many pics as possibly as the will help.
remember he'll need the tank and the whole loom so i'd start here first.
if he's familiar with the rs2000, which i doubt he is with this thread being posted you could do in a weekend but i'd say at least 2 weekends if not more

Am i over thinking this but what about the steering? Do i need to take all that out of the car? If i am dropping it out (engine, box) then will the axles all come with it? I may be in over my head here if ive got to do all that.

Im reading a old thread and i see gup is reading this! You seem to know alot about this!

if you choose to do as i explained above then you'll already have the driveshafts/hubs/wishbones/rollbar in place as it all bolts to the subframe.
the steering rack is also bolted on so in theory you can bolt the existing column to it.
you could replace the rear beam but only worthwhile if it's got rear disc's but then you'll need the brake lines and handbrake also

Mmmm, This is sounding very easy!

Already been looking for vans and one may be for sale for £150, so for £750 this could be on the cards!

By the sounds of things its all nuts and bolts then copy the wiring loom over.

Ive never done anything like this before but ive got to start somewhere!

For standard power will discs really be needed on the back?

as said not really needed but a nice mod but not all rs2000's came with discs so you may not even have them lol. as said best way is to strip the van completely and replace with all the rs2000 stuff cant go wrong then
alternatively, cut and weld the rear of the van onto the rs lol
