4k track car.

I'm not so sure about it reaching 200bhp with ITB's, but he seems to think so.
I agree with the above, I'd much rather be in a Teg on track.

How much work does a sxo need to produce 200bhp?

EK9's are starting to pop up at around the 4k mark. That'd be my choice for sure. Failing that a '98 spec JDM DC2.
All either of them really need is a set of sticky tyres

1600 quid, spend whats left on coilovers, remap etc, reckon that would show the saxo up.

Anything below 300bhp, I would want in a small, light fwd hatch unless it was a caterham or lotus.

Hmm, but I'm sure you could get the weight down quite a lot with an interior strip etc. But I supose your right.

ax vts.... beat him in a car that weighs fck all, and is square and nothing going for it lookwise
Tegs seem bit too big, 'saxo vs integra' seems a bit unfair to the little citroen lol ... surely the tegs gonna win every time anyway,
clio 1.7 turbo?

mk2 fiesta zetec, add some nos for fun lol..

Not got a clue mate, never had one. They seem like a lot of car for the money. Looking to get one soon.
I've heard good things about them performance wise.

Pulsar's understeer whatever you do to them I've heard, and yeah with proper power they need a nismo gearbox or similar, straight line with the right spec they're brutally quick though.

Which is a fair comment.
What is the weight difference between the saxo and a phase one 172? I would also imagine that starting with a extra 45-50bhp over the saxo would more than help once you start tuning?
I'm sure if 3k was chucked at a 172 then it would be able to beat the saxo?

Thing is with Clio's, they're already well fettled out the factory, so any N/A gains are minimal.
Although IIRC, 3k would get you a basic turbo set up from K-tec, which might tip it in favour of the Clio, but I'd imagine you'd need a LSD, so that blows the budget a bit lol.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
shorley the saxo lower weight and power and the clios heavier but more powerful but the bhp/ton is more or less even and its power-weight is where it counts

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!

What are Glanza V's like round the bends? I'd love one of those.

gearbox about 350 bhp tops and ecu wont run more than 1.3-5 bar before standalone ecu is needed

Glanzas arent phenomenal around the twisties but if you get one with the factory option LSD im sure it would improve things.
Power wise you'd be down on the saxo tho. 130bhp standard if im right? you can do a TD04 conversion for not a whole lot of money and make things more interesting. best route to go would be using the 1.5 n/a engine from a Cynos and do the TD04 conversion on that.
My money would be on the Teg tho, Spoon intake and a few other bits should make it more than capable of showing the Saxo a thing or two

I thought Glanza's had a reputation for being crap around corners. I had a Starlet GT Turbo and that was shit. No where near the level of my old 106 Rallye

Right, my mate is blinkered by his Saxo, he thinks it'll run rings around anything on track.
It's only 156bhp, Bilstein front struts and hi-spec brakes, and a half cage.
He's planning on going around 200bhp by next year and has said including the car, his budget is 4k including ITBs and managment.
I'm fairly sure for that money, you could buy something much more capable.
Any ideas? I really want to prove that his little Chavmobile isn't as almighty as he thinks

156bhp in a Saxo that sounds reasonably well sorted will be quick and enjoyable to drive on track. Far better than MR2's and such like.
Yes you could buy an older Evo or Impreza and have more power, but you'd be missing the point and it's be a lot heavier and harder on serviceable parts and a far less suitable track car.
And I'm not sure about the Intergra love-in. My money would be on most people in a genuine, well-sorted 156bhp Saxo having the edge over an Integra before you start talking about 200bhp.
If he can get himself a genuine 200bhp Saxo with a pretty well-sorted chassis for Ł4k then he has, pound for pound, one of the best track cars you can get. THE END!

Fiesta RS Turbo. 200 bhp is not massive money, get some decent suspension and strut braces and off you go. Should have the edge as you have a turbo and more torque. Will also no doubt be lighter... or can be made lighter as its a ford and they are made from kleenex

Weight as well as handling (sounds obvious i know) are the key...in my local saloon championship (combe), there are 1.6 106's lapping as low as 1.16 which trust me is phenomenally quick!!!
Ok they have high revving 220bhp motors but they are in the same races as the fwd 2ltr turbo's that all run over 400bhp and more often than not will place higher than them and sometimes higher than the 4wd class a (5-600bhp evo's etc) !!!
The saxos/106's also seem to beat nearly all the other equivalents so must tell you something about well they can be made to handle!
They can all more than pedal a bit though lol, the average person would do better with a car with plenty of bhp imo where they can just romp on down the straights and gain a few hero places that way lol

If I was selling my car (it's not for sale by the way lol) you'd get a nice bit of change from Ł4k which would buy track spec tyres and a cage, plus a couple of other bits and I think it'd give a good fight - n/a mk4 Escort with 193 bhp

I was driving kels sportka the other day and thought of this thread. As a standard car it's very good handling wise but is seriously underpowered. However with a sorted 2.0zetec or as md said st170 on tb's you'd see near on 200bhp and would make an awesome track car
