Default 4k track car.

Right, my mate is blinkered by his Saxo, he thinks it'll run rings around anything on track.

It's only 156bhp, Bilstein front struts and hi-spec brakes, and a half cage.

He's planning on going around 200bhp by next year and has said including the car, his budget is 4k including ITBs and managment.

I'm fairly sure for that money, you could buy something much more capable.

Any ideas? I really want to prove that his little Chavmobile isn't as almighty as he thinks

BMW 330i completel stripped out or simillar?
They're 230bhp standard but weigh 1.5 tonnes. Could probably strip a lot of that away.

Don't get me wrong, it's a capable thing as it is, but I'd of thought for 4k, you could get something with a bit more pace and maybe even 4w? Jap maybe? Rev2 MR2's can be had for Ł1500-2000.

mk3 Astra V6 4door on ebay for Ł1300.... reckon that would have a good run, and with a grand thrown at it, it would kill the saxo i reckon.

Fiat coupe turbo , give it a tune up to 300bhp )
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-T-FIA...item19d29f78ce

cheap caterham type car
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luego-Velo...item3f1928ccf7

or get a citroen ax with a 200+ bhp saxo vts lump..... Thats my winner anyway my ax gt was rapid , and the vts conversions are popular for a reason...theyre fast as fook in ax's

I would've thought an Evo 3-4 or an early WRX STi would be the obvious choice for that budget otherwise it'd be difficult to better a 200bhp well setup small hatch.

Any lightweight little car with 200 bhp is a sharp car. I'm comnverting my rs2000 to a track car, and with an aimed 950kg and 200bhp for a 2grand you can't go wrong.

I race against 3 small french cars each with 1600cc over 200 bhp a pug 106, pug 205 and a saxo
My sierra with a cossie engine has 356 bhp and them 3 generally over a race distance have the edge over me!

I'd be after a 96-spec DC2 Integra Type R which is light (extra light if you get one with factory delete options like AC/ABS/Wiper/etc), LSD, Recaros, reliable, 200bhp N/A engine, sublime chassis... I'd feel far more confident spanking a 'teg round a track for extended periods of time than I would doing it in anything French.

Cheers,
Grant

I love it when people think that more power means that you will go faster with a track car.
A 200bhp saxo will be properly quick on track.

If you want to go quick on track the first thing you need are good brakes and a car that goes round corners.

best little track car i seen was a ef civic with a intergra type r engine in it.
Only thing i saw pass it on a knockhill track night was a 600bhp rx7.
that was running 4 shitty tyres, standard brakes and chopped springs lol
also been in an eg civic with an ep3 engine and that thing also flew.sure they could both be done or alot less than 4k.

I'm surprised it's not been said yet, Clio 172?

Add lightness, basic breathing mods and blow the rest on tyres, brakes and suspension.

Only reason this hasn't been mentioned is that this is virtually on par with cars like a Saxo.

Best suggestion in this thread by a mile has been a DC2 Teg.

E36 M3 Evo. Had one when a mate had a 106 GTi with a supercharger on. It was running 200bhp at the wheels and the M3 would pull on it.

No one said you need huge power for a good track car?

An Evo 3 is a good shout too.

Another DC2 vote here, will spank most of the frenchies mentioned with 200hp when it's standard near enough, few mods it would destroy them.

Leagues ahead IMO.
