Default Focus very loud exhaust

I put a new middle pipe and back box on my focus a couple of months ago because my back box had come to the end of it's life. As it was standard fit I had to replace the middle pipe as it was all one section. Since replacing the back box and middle pipe it has seemed really loud and has and still is beginning to annoy the hell out of me.

I blocked the exhaust up a few weeks ago to see if it was leaking and low and behold it was blowing between the joints, so used the specialist exhaust sealing paste and close the gaps. This didn't solve the problem, so I blocked the exhaust up again with a rag and heard there was a leak coming from the flexi pipe, so today me and a friend replaced this part, only to find it didn't resolve the problem. Now there's absolutely no leaks between joints

When the car is stationary or the engine is revved (whilst stationary) round a round about it or turning right it purrs like a kitten, as soon as you take it above 30-40-50mph it roars like there's a gaping hole in a silencer.

The pipes themself weren't the most expensive, in fact to keep the cost down I got the cheapest I could find, from the likes of ebay. Are the pipes likely to be poorly built, hence the price.

Back box cost £26ish
Middle Pipe £30 (Think it was imported by seller, and the delivery guy thought it was a good idea to throw the pipe around the back of his truck)
Flexi pipe £30 (bought from motorfactors)

Can someone please give me a little bit of advice. I'm guessing my next option may be to strip the exhaust back and start again with new parts. Or just live with the noise.

Crack in the exhaust manifold or downpipe possibly or maybe the exhaust manifold gasket is leaking?

Tbh id probably say its down to the exhaust itself because of the price. Cheaper the price the worse the quality. We do tend to notice the cheaper ones in work arn't the best fitting, plus you say you have bought 3 differant parts from 3 differant places, so its either gonna be the joins or just the system itself.

Alls you can do is loosen all the clamps, cake the joins in paste, then tighten the clamp as tight as you can without snapping them, if its still loud its probably the system itself.

Yeh I am beginning to think its the system itself, I've pulled it apart 3 or 4 times now, put paste in between the joints and it made no improvements whatsoever. Will price up a new set up later from the motor factor, I'm guessing they should have good quality parts.

If there was a crack in the down pipe / manifold or gasket wouldn't it sound like its blowing from the front and wouldn't you also be able to hear it when the car is stationary?

sounds like your cheapo exhaust has no baffles to speak of, you get what you pay for with exhausts, a good 2nd hand stainless steel one will only cost around £100 and will outlive the car

Can anyone recommend a place to get a decent set up that not going to sound like its got a gaping hole in it. I've used buypartsby.co.uk along time ago and can't remember what the quality was like.

Just spoke to the guys at the motor factors and they are quoting a price of £28 for the back box and £38 for a new middle pipe, would anyone think the low price of the back box would mean it'd be poor quality?

Is it the possibility the shit I have on at the moment is mild steel, when I did speak to the motor factors I did hear him say he had a walker back box but it was £38, is that likely to be the best box to go for.
